Divorced My Cheating Husband, Married A Billionaire novel Chapter 98

“You -” Brian’s brows met. He asked, “You aren’t referring to Claire, are you?”

“Oh, I am,” Adrian confirmed without a moment’s hesitation, his attention shifting back to Brian.

“Okay, Adrian. I get it. You are mad at me, but you don’t have to involve Claire,” Brian said through gritted teeth. “Claire is innocent! What happened between me and Riley was my fault!”

“Innocent, are we?” Adrian turned back to Claire. “We will see about that.”

“Clint?” Adrian called. His assistant had been standing behind Adrian the whole time.

It seemed to Brian that they had a silent agreement as the assistant left without saying a word.

“Mr. King, I didn’t know that Brian was married when he courted me, and I - I just fell in love,” Claire said with a hurt expression. “Then, I got pregnant -”

“Save your speech for later. You will need it badly,” Adrian said to Claire.

The air around them thickened, and Brian and his friends stayed silent in the next few minutes despite another alumnus speaking in front of everyone. Only their eyes spoke, and Brian could tell Mark and Luke were curious about the rift between him and Adrian.

Eventually, though, Luke could not hold it in. He asked, “What is this about? What did you promise to Adrian, Brian?”

“It’s nothing,” Brian said.

Sadly for him, Adrian spilled, “Years back, I gave way for Brian to have Riley. He promised me he would never hurt her.”

“Wait.” Jean asked, “Did Brian know all along that you liked Riley?”

Riley explained how she fell onto the beach many years ago and did not know her mysterious savior. She said, “Brian said he was the one who saved me, and that’s how I started opening up to him.”

Brian’s hands clenched into fists below the table. He saw his friends stare at him in disbelief. He gulped and defended himself, “It wasn’t my fucking intention. Adrian had asked me to keep it a secret, and Riley caught me putting the damn chocolate on her desk. All I could do was lie!”

“But you never corrected it!” Riley raised her voice in anger. “All those years, you made me believe it was you when it should have been Adrian! You have no idea, Brian. I felt so cheated out! I could have spent that time with Adrian and not with you!”

Riley’s voice was so loud that the people around them were eavesdropping on their table. They were trying to understand the drama that was unfolding.

“This is stupid!” Brian declared. “that was a long time ago. We were over this -”

“Because I gave way. Because you promised you wouldn’t hurt Riley,” Adrian hissed between tight lips. “Did you forget Brian, how I made it hard for you? Did you forget how you defied the odds to defend your relationship with Riley? Yet, despite all your efforts to go against me, you broke your promise.”
