Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 127

When Camilla got home, she still felt completely scrambled inside. Her mind wouldn’t settle, not even a little.

Jasper must have heard about what happened to Elise. He looked up at Camilla, eyes full of worry. “Mom, Grandma’s going to be okay, right?”

“She’s going to be fine,” Camilla promised softly. “I might not be around much these next couple of days, so you have to be good for Susan. Eat your meals, listen to her, okay?”

Jasper nodded without hesitation, agreeing to every word.

Susan chimed in, “Camilla, you don’t need to worry about Jasper at all. He’s such a good kid. I’ll take care of everything.”

“Thank you, Susan. Please take Jasper to rest,” Camilla said, her voice sounding tired even to herself. She felt like every ounce of strength had drained from her. There was no energy left to spend with Jasper tonight.

Susan quietly led Jasper away, comforting him with gentle words as they left.

That whole night, Camilla barely slept. Whenever she did doze off, she dreamed of Barnard. He wasn’t himself in the dream. Instead, he was some wild, snarling creature with twisted features, chasing her relentlessly, determined to tear her apart. She woke up feeling even more exhausted.

Barely any daylight was shining through her curtains when Camilla’s phone buzzed. Carol was calling, asking her to meet.

They met at the little coffee shop downstairs from Camilla’s apartment. Carol was already there, sitting with a flash drive in hand. It was the repaired hospital surveillance footage.

The cameras at the hospital didn’t record sound, but Carol knew how to read lips. She sat close, quietly translating every word Daisy and Davina were saying on the footage.

Camilla watched, her stomach twisting, as Davina shoved Elise. Elise’s head hit the edge of a nearby table, and she slumped down, unconscious.

Davina didn’t stop there. She got up as if to go after Elise again, only to be interrupted when a nurse walked in to change Daisy’s dressing.

Looking shaken, Davina just sat down on the floor, fumbling with her phone to call Barnard.

It didn’t take long for Barnard to show up. Not much later, Elise was being rushed to the ER.

The video also showed Magee nearby. Barnard seemed to whisper something to him. Both men had their backs turned, so Camilla and Carol couldn’t see their faces or figure out what was being said.

She gently said goodbye to Carol, then messaged Ada for one more favor: to start hyping up a public livestream.

Just when she had everything almost in place, her phone lit up with a call from Barnard. Seeing his name flash across the screen felt like having a sharp splinter driven into her chest. She stared at it for a long moment but didn’t answer.

No hesitating now. If she wanted to expose Barnard, she had to move fast, before he realized what was happening.

Without stopping to think, Camilla gathered the evidence and hurried to the office.

“Everything’s ready, Camilla,” Ada told her when she arrived. “The media’s all been invited, the promotion’s done. Just waiting for you to go live.”

Camilla nodded and walked straight into the conference room. Before anything else, she turned to Ada, voice serious. “This is all on me. If anyone asks, just say you were helping promote a product. You had no idea what was really going on. I don’t want you in the crossfire.”

Ada agreed, eyes wide. Camilla gave her a quick, grateful look and said, “Can you stay outside and keep an eye out? Don’t let anyone in.”

Once she was alone, Camilla set up the equipment herself and logged in to the company’s official streaming account. Thanks to Ada’s help, thousands of viewers were already piling into the livestream room, waiting to see what would happen next.
