Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 144

The woman grabbed her and tried to drag her out of the chair.

“You ungrateful brat! You think just pretending you don’t know us is enough? I still have the wedding photo of you and my son on my phone. Should I show everyone?” she yelled.

She pulled at Davina hard. Davina couldn’t break free and ended up crashing to the floor, letting out a sharp cry as pain shot through her. She clutched her stomach, her voice trembling. “Don’t… don’t touch me! My stomach hurts! Someone help, call an ambulance!”

The way Davina panicked and protected her stomach caught Camilla’s eye. A sinking realization hit her, followed by a nauseous feeling she couldn’t shake.

Davina was pregnant. No wonder Calvin had forgiven her so easily. She got herself a get-out-of-jail-free ticket.

And Barnard, always going on about loyalty and gratitude, seemed like just another man after all. Camilla used to think his feelings for Davina were just about needing emotional comfort, but now she realized she’d clearly given him too much credit.

Thoughts raced through her mind, but more than anything, Camilla just felt relieved. She remembered how Barnard claimed medical reasons to avoid being intimate with her. If he hadn’t, right now she’d probably be running somewhere to throw up.

Davina’s mother-in-law kept yelling, getting more impatient. “Stop pretending! Where’s my son’s insurance payout? Hand it over!”

Davina stayed curled up on the ground, one arm hugging her stomach while sweat beaded on her forehead. “I’m not pretending. My stomach… it really hurts…”

People in the café were starting to get involved, and someone had already called an ambulance.

Davina’s mother-in-law stopped in her tracks, her anger faltering as she looked at Davina trembling on the floor. She stared, shock and realization clear in her eyes. The way Davina held her stomach, her pale face—it all made sense now.

But her own son had been gone less than six months. How could this happen?

Ines, Davina’s mother-in-law, clenched her jaw so tight she might break a tooth. She looked like she wanted to tear Davina apart, but held back, afraid to make things worse.

While Ines kept hurling curses, Barnard finally realized who they were. He glanced at Camilla, desperate for her to clear things up.

Camilla didn’t even try to cover up. “Davina asked me to meet and started demanding I divorce you. Then this couple showed up, and everyone started fighting. Next thing I know, she’s heading to the hospital. Honestly, it’s almost unbelievable. Their son died, and before they could grieve, Davina connects herself to you—and takes his payout along with it. She’s basically cut off their only way to survive.”

Her mocking tone made Barnard’s face burn. And he caught it—Camilla wasn’t on his side at all.

When the older couple heard how Camilla laid it all out, they broke down, holding each other and sobbing. “This is a nightmare. My son’s barely cold, and Davina took his money just to run off with someone else. Now she’s pregnant with a stranger’s child. How am I supposed to face anyone back home?”

Ines’s shrill cries echoed down the hospital hallway. Every time Barnard tried talking, she’d just shriek “Cheater!” and he’d turn even paler, unable to get a single word out. He looked helplessly at Camilla, hoping she would say something else.

But Camilla just put on a look of fake surprise. “Barnard, you really handled this well. I honestly thought when you brought Davina here, you’d already smoothed things over with her family. Guess I was wrong…”
