Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 205

Camilla knew Lance had things to do, so she just asked him to drop her and Jasper off at the entrance of her apartment complex. She didn't want to trouble him more than necessary.

As soon as she and Jasper got close to their building, Camilla spotted someone she’d hoped to avoid: Davina. Davina was waiting right by the door with Daisy at her side. She looked pale, the kind of pale that comes from waiting way too long or from worrying about something you can’t control.

The second Camilla saw them, a wave of annoyance rolled through her. Of course, Davina spotted her, too, and marched right over. "Camilla, can we talk for a minute?"

"What for?" Camilla didn’t even pretend to be polite. "Don’t tell me you’re here to apologize for the Carter family or invite me back again. I doubt you’re feeling that generous."

She knew exactly what Davina was like. Around the Carters, Davina played the sweet, thoughtful woman. Around Camilla, she dropped the act. Last time, she’d pulled out all the stops in front of Barnard, putting on that dramatic, teary show. Now, with Barnard not here, Davina obviously had another angle.

Davina’s fake confidence faded at being called out, and her expression froze.

Meanwhile, Daisy had locked eyes on Jasper’s toys. "Where’d you get those? Did you go to Funland Restaurant? With Barnard? Why?" She eyed Jasper suspiciously. "You’re not even Barnard’s kid. Why would he take you?"

Daisy shot out question after question, voice rising, obviously jealous. She even reached for Jasper’s toys, trying to snatch them right out of his hands.

Jasper twisted away, not letting go. Daisy wouldn’t back off, going after the toys again.

The two of them struggled, pushing and reaching. In the chaos, they stumbled into Davina. Camilla managed to steer Jasper away, but Daisy ended up ramming straight into Davina’s stomach. Davina lost her balance and staggered, hitting the wall behind her before she caught herself.

Clutching her stomach, Davina hunched over, sweat breaking out on her forehead. Even in pain, she snapped at Daisy. "What’s wrong with you now? Do you want to hurt me?"

Daisy went quiet, head down. She knew she’d messed up. Ever since Barnard found out about the baby, he only cared about the child in Davina’s belly. The last time Daisy got her mother in trouble, Barnard ignored her for days. She definitely couldn’t risk that again.

Thinking fast, Daisy glanced at Jasper and pointed at him. "It was him! He pushed me!"

Looking at Davina’s desperation, Camilla finally understood. This baby was her only ticket to securing a place in the Carter family. She was desperate to become Mrs. Carter while she still could.

Scheming, Camilla thought, but coming to her was pointless. She wanted a divorce, too. It was the Carter family blocking it, which was why she had to file a lawsuit.

Davina was still pleading. "Camilla, I know you hate me. Just give me this one thing. If you divorce Barnard, I swear I’ll never bother you again. Please?"

She reached for Camilla’s hand, but Camilla easily stepped out of reach. "Davina, if I were you, I wouldn’t waste time begging like this. It’s pathetic."

"Easy for you to say," Davina shot back, hurt and defensive. "You’re smart. You have your own life. Of course you’d never end up like me. But I don’t have any other options. What else am I supposed to do?"

Camilla let out a quiet laugh. "No options? If I were you, I’d see you actually have lots of cards to play. For one, your mom would sell you out in a second for a shot at luxury, and your mother-in-law is as greedy as they come. All either of them wants is for you to marry rich. Why not put their ambition to use? Get them to help you into the Carter family, then deal with them later, once you’re actually Mrs. Carter. Wouldn’t that be easy?"
