Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 234

Camilla couldn’t hear anything unusual in her friend’s voice, but the worry inside her wouldn’t go away. “When I’m back, promise me you’ll tell me everything. No holding back.”

She remembered too clearly how badly Magee had hurt Dahlia before. Dahlia wouldn’t have crossed paths with Magee again if it weren’t for her. Leaving things unsettled just wasn’t an option for Camilla.

Stepping out of the airport, feeling the afternoon sun beating down, she wasted no time. She flagged a cab and headed straight to Daniel’s company.

Daniel’s assistant met her downstairs, all business but polite. “Camilla, you’re here so fast. The boss is still in a meeting with a client. Would you like to wait in the lounge?”

“No thanks. I’ll just wait by the door for Daniel,” Camilla replied.

Dragging this out would only make things worse. Daniel had told her over the phone he would give her a chance to explain in person, but for all she knew, he’d already decided to drop their deal. Camilla couldn’t let that happen. She needed to take control.

She hadn’t come alone today. Ada and a lawyer were right behind.

“But we’re not sure when he’ll be done, Camilla…”

Before the assistant could finish, the executive office door swung open. A woman in a scarlet dress stepped out. She looked familiar, another woman from the East. As she came closer, she shot Camilla a quick, sharp look, hostility flickering across her face. “So it’s you.”

“Pamela. It’s been a while,” Camilla answered, her tone icy.

“It really has… what a small world, Mrs. Carter.” The way Pamela said “Mrs. Carter,” you’d think it hurt her to say it. She glanced toward the corridor where Camilla was headed, then let a sly, almost teasing tone slip in. “Just a tip, since we go way back. Don’t force yourself into circles where you don’t belong. And even if you do manage to take something that isn’t yours, you won’t keep it for long.”

“Oh? I don’t need you worrying about what I can hold onto, Pamela,” Camilla replied without missing a beat.

She didn’t need an introduction. This woman was Magee’s ex-fiancée, Pamela herself—the same one who’d nearly ruined Dahlia all those years ago. Calling them enemies wasn’t an exaggeration.

That scandal had blown up, big time, and the Gates family rushed Pamela out of the country to cool things off. After all these years, this was Camilla’s first time seeing her again. Yet Pamela was exactly as she’d remembered: entitled, arrogant, and completely full of herself.

Camilla met Pamela’s stare, completely unfazed. If Pamela wanted to hold a grudge, she’d rather take the heat herself than let it fall on Dahlia again.

Pamela still hadn’t changed. All it took was a couple of cutting remarks from Camilla, and the old fury flared back to life.

“Talk is cheap,” Pamela snapped. “A Mrs. Carter without the Carter family behind her can’t even keep her own projects. Do you really think you’re a match for me, Camilla?”

“Why don’t we see for ourselves, Pamela? Let’s start with this project and find out who’s really out of her league,” Camilla replied.

Just then, the assistant reappeared and gestured for her to come in—Daniel was ready.

Camilla didn’t hesitate. Her heels clicked confidently on the marble as she strode right past Pamela, not bothering to look back.
