Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 292

The second Calvin saw Davina’s face, scratched and swollen, he nearly choked on his own breath. “Do you even realize you're about to marry Barnard?” he snapped, his voice rising. “It’s not like you’re a beauty queen to begin with, and now you’ve ruined your face? Are you just trying to embarrass the Carter family on purpose?”

Davina’s eyes filled with tears. She looked heartbroken as she faced Calvin. “Dad, I didn't mean for this to happen. I never thought—”

“There’s a lot you never think about,” Calvin shot back. “Seriously, what’s that brain of yours even for? Is there anything you actually do right?” He couldn’t bother hiding his disappointment anymore.

Davina was already older than most brides. Calvin knew just how hard it had been to convince himself that letting Barnard marry her was the right thing to do.

He had planned for her to spend the time before the wedding taking care of herself, at least enough so she wouldn’t look even older than Barnard’s mom on the big day.

Now, not only was all that effort wasted, she’d managed to scrape up her face too. With the wedding less than a month away, there was no chance she’d look normal again by then.

The shame was already weighing so heavy on Calvin, he almost couldn’t keep his head up.

Davina sniffled, then glared at Rosalia, her anger spilling over. “Dad, it’s all her fault. If it wasn’t for her, my face wouldn’t be like this. I—”

Rosalia’s nerves were already frayed. There was no way she was going to argue with Calvin, so she immediately looked to the nearest police officer for support. “Officer, you know what happened. She tried to pin her mess on me. She lied and tried to blame me. I just lost my temper and hit her, that’s all. I know the Carters are powerful, but you need to stand up for me and make sure they don’t mess with me.”

She was blunt, almost too blunt, and her words made Calvin and his family look like some kind of mobsters.

Calvin almost lost it, but he forced himself to explain, “I’ve learned what went down, and you’re not the one at fault here. You can go. I’ll make sure every cent of your Carter family paycheck gets sent to your bank account.”

Rosalia let out a huge sigh, her whole body relaxing.

“You’re generous, Mr. Carter. Not like Davina. First she promised I’d have a job here, then she tried to set me up as her scapegoat. Please. I—”

“Rosalia, enough!” Davina cut in, her voice almost desperate, wanting Rosalia to just give it a rest.
