Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 300

She gave Lance’s back a gentle pat. “Okay, it’s my fault, all of it. I’m sorry for jumping to conclusions before knowing the truth. That’s on me, alright?”

Lance shook his head. “No, it’s not your fault. I should’ve done better. Even if she used my car, I should’ve told you about it first, instead of letting you worry and overthink everything. Camilla, I messed up. So I’ve made up my mind. Tomorrow, I’m getting you a gift to apologize.”

He didn’t even give her a chance to refuse, just spoke over her and pulled her into his arms, gently resting her head against his chest.

His open and fierce love completely wrapped her up, and Camilla could feel her heart racing from just a few of his words.

It made her realize how wrong she’d been about love before. She used to think that Barnard’s patience and sweet talk were what love was supposed to feel like. She believed every promise he made, convinced that she and Barnard were in love. Now she saw she’d just never experienced real, passionate feelings before, and that’s how Barnard managed to fool her for so long.

Looking back, Barnard never really cared about her feelings. He was never the type to want to explain himself or resolve things like Lance did, always eager to make her feel safe. Lance would rather blame himself than let her wonder. That was real.

Leaning against Lance’s chest, Camilla drifted off in thought.

Jasper, who had waited long enough, piped up with a little grumble. “Mom, Lance, you guys are so… mushy. Can we please go home?”

That snapped Camilla right back to reality. She quickly stepped away from Lance and bent down to take Jasper’s hand, her voice gentle. “Sorry, honey. Mommy zoned out for a minute. Thanks for waiting.”

Jasper shook his head. “It wasn’t your fault, Mom. I saw everything. Lance was squeezing you too tight. So it’s all his fault.”

To Jasper, his mom was always the most important and could do no wrong. She would never forget him or leave him out. Obviously, Lance was the problem here.

Camilla knew Jasper wasn’t being serious, but she still felt a little embarrassed. She shot Lance a half-annoyed, half-teasing look. Lance just smiled and grabbed Jasper’s other hand. “You’re so right. I’ll take the blame. Next time, I promise, I won’t hug Camilla so tight.”

“Lance, he’s a child. Don’t talk to him like that,” Camilla said, trying to sound stern.

But Lance just apologized with a smile. “Sorry, Camilla. I couldn’t help it, I was just so happy.”

Now that all her worries had faded away, Camilla felt lighter. That night, she slept peacefully for the first time in a long while.

Camilla shook her head. “No, don’t worry. He’s stubborn, but deep down, he’s really not strict with me. He didn’t even try to stop me from coming.”

Sarah looked away for a split second, her mood suddenly hard to read. She mumbled, “Lance isn’t really that soft. You just don’t know him like I do. He’s actually… Never mind, forget it. Anyway, Camilla, what’s your situation with him now? Are you guys living together?”

“I guess you could say that,” Camilla said. It was the truth. She and Lance were living together, so there was no point pretending otherwise.

Sarah nodded slowly and sighed. “That must be tough. Lance is… well, he’s got a lot of quirks. Do you find yourself putting up with a lot?”

Camilla smiled. “Not really. He’s actually really sweet to me.”

The easy way Camilla said that made Sarah freeze for a second. Then Sarah forced a tiny smile. “That’s… actually the first time I’ve heard someone say that about Lance. You must mean a lot to him.”

Camilla didn’t answer. They finished trying on clothes and left the store, where they found Shirley waiting at the entrance. Standing beside her was an elegant woman whose presence just naturally turned heads.
