Lance barely reacted, his eyelids flickering just a little.
He didn’t bother explaining anything. He just said again, “Dane, see her out.”
“Sarah, this way please.” Dane didn’t hesitate this time, nodding quickly after getting the order again.
Tears pooled in Sarah’s eyes. Lance was ice-cold, his tone leaving her no space to defend herself. She had no choice but to set down her teacup and get to her feet.
Just as she was leaving, Lance spoke up. “When you get home, don’t mention Camilla. There’s no reason for her to have anything to do with the Charles family right now.”
“Why? Lance, I honestly don’t understand you. Aren’t you with Camilla now? So why haven’t you ever brought her home, or even let her meet your family?”
Sarah stopped, turning to look at Lance. She eyed Camilla from the side, a glint of something mean flickering in her gaze.
Lance’s eyes went even colder. Before he could respond, Dane had already walked Sarah out.
Then Lance turned to Camilla, his voice soft but serious. “Don’t let anything she said today get to you. My family, honestly, they’re just background noise for you right now. None of it matters, you shouldn’t let them pressure you. And about… us—there’s no rush. Titles, labels, all that can wait, we’ll just move at your pace.”
To anyone watching, it probably looked like the two of them were head over heels. But there was still that invisible wall between them. They hadn’t made it official—not yet.
Camilla knew exactly what Lance meant. He was holding back with his family because she hadn’t completely said yes to him. He didn’t want them to get in her way, or mess with her.
Once Dane got back from seeing Sarah out, Lance turned to him and said, “From now on, nobody from the Charles family gets in here. Not even Sarah.”
“Lance, isn’t that a bit much?” Dane asked.
Lance shook his head. “What’s too much about it? You’ve been here a while, but haven’t you realized? This isn’t my house—it’s Camilla’s. I’m basically just a guest. She’s always been the only one whose say matters here. I’m not about to let people with bad intentions walk all over her home.”
After that, Dane quieted down. He finally got it. Even if Lance was technically the boss, Camilla’s feelings mattered more.
Dane already knew what Lance was like when he really liked someone—totally willing to drop his pride. He stopped arguing and just nodded.
