Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 342

“Those people outside are all your relatives. If I’m remembering right, you were the one who convinced them to go mess with Camilla, and it was Camilla who got them thrown in the police station. Back then, I really didn’t want to help them out. It was you who pleaded with me, and that’s how we ended up in this mess.

Davina, I always thought you were so sweet and innocent, like you’d never do anything shady. Turns out, I was wrong. I can’t believe you’d stoop this low just to throw dirt on Camilla and make up stuff you can’t prove.”

“No, Barnard, I wasn’t trying to throw dirt on her. Think about it. It was Camilla who said she’d sue those people, but after we bailed them out, nothing happened. And honestly, getting them out was way too easy, don’t you think? This has to be part of Camilla’s plan. She’s setting us up,” Davina said, her voice growing more certain with every word.

She tugged again at Barnard’s sleeve. “It’s her, Barnard. She’s the cruel one. She never planned to let us go. Everything that’s happened—it’s all because of her.”

“That’s enough.” Calvin cut in, his voice sharp. “You two should be thinking about how to fix this, not pointing fingers at someone else. If Camilla wants to press charges, then let her. Davina, remember where you are now. You married into the Carter family. You’re not part of that bunch out there anymore.

If you can’t figure that out, the Carter family doesn’t need a daughter-in-law who doesn’t care about this family.”

Davina flinched in surprise at his anger and rushed to show where her loyalties lay.

Calvin looked at her coldly. “Both of you started this mess, so both of you can fix it. After tonight, I don’t want to hear another word about it.”

With that, he walked upstairs with Laura, not even glancing back.

The living room fell quiet. Davina looked up and met Barnard’s icy eyes, and the nervous twist in her stomach only grew. She pulled at his sleeve. “Barnard, what do we do now? They... they’re just here to get money from us. They won’t leave unless we pay.”

“Then pay them,” Barnard said. He turned and looked at her, serious. “Davina, didn’t I give you a bunch of jewelry, handbags, cash, all of that? I’d guess you have at least a few tens of millions. Take some out and settle this.”

Davina stared at him, eyes wide. She could hardly believe what he was saying. “Are you serious? You want me to use my own money on them?”

Barnard’s face shifted, clearly annoyed by her tone. “Davina, my cards are all frozen right now, and those people are your relatives. This whole disaster started because of you, so you should handle it. I’m only telling you this because you look like you’re drowning and I don’t want Dad to come down hard on you. Besides, isn’t all that money from me, anyway?
