Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 384

"And Sarah—someone with that much venom has no place in the Charles family. Make the arrangements. Once she's healed, pack her off overseas."

Camilla had no idea that Darwin's entire mindset had undergone a seismic shift.

So when she got home from work that evening and spotted Darwin's car parked outside Laguna Shores, her first reaction was a wave of pure anxiety.

She hurried into the living room, only to freeze at the sight of piles of children's toys and brand-name clothes stacked near the sofa. There were even tiny toys and outfits meant for Snow.

Darwin was sitting on the couch, chatting with Elise. Her mother sat with her head bowed, looking incredibly tense, and only let out a massive sigh of relief when she saw Camilla walk in.

Darwin noticed her too. His eyes actually softened with a hint of sympathy. "Camilla, I've looked into everything. It was entirely Sarah's foolish behavior that started this mess. You've been wronged."

"Did you come here today to apologize on her behalf?

There's no need. You're Lance's grandfather. Whatever happened between Sarah and me has nothing to do with you," Camilla replied evenly.

"Oh, Camilla, you've completely misunderstood," Darwin said smoothly. "What is Sarah to me? Just an adopted girl taken in by the Charles family. Why would I ever apologize for her?

I've already arranged for her to be sent abroad. I'm here today to make things right with you.

You and Lance have been together for a while now, and as his family, I haven't given you a proper welcome gift. Thinking it over, I felt terrible about it, so I decided to drop by.

I heard your company is trying to get into an international jewelry exhibition? I just happen to have a slot available. Consider it yours. And also—"

"Darwin, are you telling me all this because you've finally accepted my relationship with Lance?" Camilla cut straight to the chase before he could ramble further.

His change in attitude was glaringly obvious, but Camilla couldn't shake her deep-seated skepticism.

What on earth could have triggered such a rapid 180 in his mindset?

Was it really just because Sarah's lies were exposed that he suddenly decided Camilla was acceptable?

That explanation felt incredibly far-fetched.

"Accept? Of course I accept you! I was just a stubborn, foolish old man before. I see things clearly now. Lance adores you, and you take wonderful care of him. You two belong together," Darwin nodded enthusiastically, his eyes darting around the room. "By the way, where's Jasper? I don't see him anywhere."

He had come exclusively for Jasper.

"Perfect. I'll stay then."

Camilla had assumed that telling him Lance wasn't home would be his cue to leave. Instead, he jumped at the invitation with an eagerness that made it seem like he was thrilled Lance was absent.

Her suspicions were piling up, but she couldn't exactly kick him out. Feeling awkward, she said, "Why don't you have some tea while I call the driver to bring Jasper back."

Darwin agreed instantly and then stood up. "Camilla, I've been sitting for a while. Mind if I take a look around?

Don't worry, I don't mean anything by it. I just want to see where Lance is living these days. And maybe take a peek at Jasper's room while I'm at it."

Even though he tried to casually tack Jasper on at the end of his request, Camilla could easily sense his intense focus on her son.

Standing quietly in the background, the butler watched Darwin's terrible acting with a heavy dose of secondhand embarrassment.

Camilla decided not to overthink his bizarre behavior. If he was truly trying to accept her, showing interest in Jasper was a logical next step.

"Of course," she agreed. "But there isn't much to see in his room besides toys and books. If you really want to take a look, Dane can show you the way."
