Tessa was livid.
She clutched her chest, her breathing erratic. After a long moment, she spat, "Fine. Fine! Since none of you can stand the sight of me, I won't stay here and ruin your night. I'm leaving."
With those parting words, she spun on her heel. Leah hurried after her. "Tessa! Tessa, don't do this. Don't let Jeniffer get under your skin. You know she doesn't think before she speaks. I'll have a word with her later. It's the holidays—where are you even going to go?"
"Drop the fake sympathy. Where I go is none of your business," Tessa snapped.
"Tessa..." Leah took another couple of steps, but Tessa had already yanked the car door open, slid inside, and locked it behind her.
The car sped off into the night. Leah turned back, panic edging her voice as she looked at Oscar. "Oscar, what are you just standing there for? Go after her!"
Normally, Oscar would have already been out the door. But tonight, he remained rooted to the spot, a deep exhaustion swimming in his eyes.
Lately, Tessa had been hounding him relentlessly, demanding he find a way to bring Sarah back.
Sarah wasn't faring well abroad. Every evening when Oscar returned from the office, he'd hear Tessa on the phone with her.
Oddly enough, whenever Oscar heard Sarah's manipulative, whining tone, he felt zero sympathy. Instead, it just sounded deeply hypocritical.
The constant nagging had worn his patience down to the bone.
Not to mention Tessa's absolute meltdown in front of the entire family tonight. It was embarrassing. After a long silence, he let out a heavy sigh. "Let her go. She needs to cool off."
Leah lowered her head, guilt shadowing her features. "I'm so sorry. This is my fault. I wasn't thinking straight. I shouldn't have given Camilla the bracelet tonight."
The bracelet had been the match that lit the powder keg.
If Tessa hadn't seen it, she might not have exploded so spectacularly.
"You have nothing to apologize for," Oscar said firmly. "She's been emotionally unhinged lately.
Besides, Mom asked you to hold onto that bracelet for her anyway. You didn't do anything wrong."
Leah gave a slight nod, but the guilt in her eyes lingered.
Camilla hadn't expected things to escalate so disastrously.
The bracelet felt impossibly heavy on her wrist, practically burning against her skin.
They hadn't been inside long before Lance walked in with Jasper. Sensing the suffocating tension in the room, Lance frowned. "What happened in here?"
