"Why bring all of this up now, Oscar? We're family. If Tessa's unhappy, I don't mind keeping my distance," Leah said.
Some rifts had been there for so many years they were impossible to bridge, and Leah had long since made her peace with it.
"You've suffered a lot of unfairness over the years," Oscar insisted.
"Tessa can be stubborn, she..."
"You don't need to explain. I've never held it against her. It's a holiday, let's not dwell on the past," Leah smiled gently, turning her attention to Jasper. "You must be Jasper. You are so handsome. I have a little something for you too, here you go."
Jasper wasn't quite as resistant to Leah. He politely thanked her, looking so incredibly sweet that Leah couldn't help but strike up a conversation with him.
Meanwhile, Jeniffer kept darting glances at Camilla.
She looked almost timid, quickly averting her eyes whenever Camilla caught her staring, completely contradicting the fiery attitude she'd just unleashed on Tessa.
She probably thought she was being subtle, but Camilla noticed the relentless side-eying. Lance noticed it too. "Jeniffer, why do you keep staring at Camilla?
I'm warning you, she's mine. Keep your little schemes to yourself."
Both Jeniffer and Camilla looked flustered. Camilla nudged Lance gently with her elbow. "What are you talking about?"
"Yeah, Lance, what are you talking about? I just want to be friends with her," Jeniffer echoed.
Now that the ice was broken, her earlier shyness vanished. She marched right up to Camilla and hooked her arm through hers. "Let's ignore him, Camilla. Come chat with me over here.
I have to tell you, I've been following you for so long. You're practically my idol."
"Following me?" Camilla asked, bewildered.
"Yeah!" Jeniffer gushed. "Ever since Lance had that massive crush on you. You were still in college! I kept hoping you two would get together, but Lance was so useless, he let someone else snatch you up first."
"Lance had a crush on me when I was in college?" Camilla's head was spinning.
Lance had never given her a straight answer about how he actually knew her.
No matter how hard Camilla racked her brain, she couldn't conjure up a single memory of Lance from back then.
"Wait, you really didn't know? And it wasn't just in college—he's had a crush on you since you were kids.
But I only found out about you during your college years.
Sorry, Camilla. I really wasn't trying to stalk you, I was just so curious back then," Jeniffer rambled.
Camilla was more confused than ever.
