The two of them drove directly to the high-end luxury boutique Tessa usually frequented. Along the way, Tessa looked as if she wanted to say something but held back, eventually settling for a few casual questions about Jasper's preferences.
After parking the car, they walked toward the boutique entrance and immediately spotted someone unexpected—Sarah's best friend, Shirley.
Spring hadn't completely warmed up yet, and the air still carried a biting chill, especially the evening breeze, which cut right to the bone.
It was unclear how long Shirley had been standing there, but she looked like she was waiting for someone, her eyes constantly scanning the area.
A sales associate from the boutique was trying to reason with her. "Miss, we've told you many times, that client hasn't been here in a long time. Please don't wait around here anymore, it's bad for business."
"I'm just standing off to the side, how am I bothering you? And do you really not know anything? Isn't she one of your regulars?" Shirley argued.
"We can't control our clients' schedules. You've been waiting here for days, you should know better than us whether she's shown up or not," the associate sighed helplessly.
Shirley had been camping out there for five days, specifically demanding to see Tessa.
Tessa used to be one of the store's top clients, dropping by frequently to make purchases. But she hadn't visited in nearly two months. Losing such a massive spender had the store manager scratching his head, terrified that they had somehow offended her.
Honestly, the staff wanted Tessa to show up even more than Shirley did.
Just as Shirley and the associate were arguing, another associate walked out to see a customer off and immediately spotted Tessa and Camilla. She rushed over, beaming. "Mrs. Charles! You're here. We just got a new shipment in, you absolutely must come take a look."
"No rush. What's going on over there?" Tessa asked, frowning as she noticed Shirley. Deep down, she already had a pretty good idea.
Over the past few weeks, strange numbers had been calling her phone relentlessly, and she could guess exactly who was behind them.
"That lady over there..."
Before the associate could finish explaining, Shirley heard the commotion. She practically sprinted over to Tessa. "Aunt Tessa! I finally found you."
"What do you want?" Tessa asked coldly.
She recognized Shirley, of course. She was Sarah's best friend. Back when Tessa doted on Sarah, she had always been warm and pleasant to Shirley.
