Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 519

The tears Camilla had fought so hard to hold back finally spilled over in front of him. Her voice cracked with a heavy sob. "Dad, I'm here now. I'll take care of you. I can feed you. You don't ever have to do that again."

Hearing her broken voice, it finally dawned on Tanner that his instinctual movements had devastated her.

He offered an awkward, apologetic laugh, completely at a loss for words.

Lance seamlessly intervened, handing a freshly prepared plate to Camilla. "The fish bones are removed, and I picked out the cilantro. You should feed him, Camilla."

Lance had no idea if Tanner liked cilantro or not, but he knew Camilla despised it, so he had meticulously removed it just in case.

With a massive lump lodged in her throat, Camilla couldn't form a single word. She took the plate with slightly robotic movements.

Tanner, ever eager to lighten the mood, chewed enthusiastically and flashed a warm, affectionate smile. "Delicious. Truly delicious. It's been forever since I've had a meal this good. It tastes exactly like your mother's cooking, Camilla."

After feeding him every last bite and carefully tucking the blankets around him, Camilla stepped out of the room. But instead of leaving, she sat down on a bench in the corridor.

The image of Tanner instinctively craning his neck down to eat like an animal was a jagged knife twisting in her heart. She couldn't even fathom how her father—stripped of his dignity, degraded, and humiliated by those monsters day after day—had managed to survive all these years.

Lance sat down quietly beside her. His chest felt heavy, too, and he knew that words were entirely useless right now.

The two of them sat in the dead silence of the hospital hallway for the entire night.

Early the next morning, a sudden commotion jolted them awake.

A heavily pregnant woman was trying to shove her way down the hall, while several nurses frantically tried to hold her back.

The woman was screaming something Camilla couldn't quite make out, but her eyes were locked squarely on Tanner's room.
