The woman kept sobbing, desperately trying to justify it. "Ms. Camilla, I told you, my husband only did what Clement ordered! If you want to blame someone, blame Clement! We're victims here too!"
"Victims?" Camilla let out a sharp, incredulous laugh. "Since when does actively enabling a monster make you a victim? If your husband had a single shred of conscience, the moment he realized what was happening, he would have walked away. Instead, he chose to help Clement commit atrocities. I don't feel a drop of pity for him. He brought this entirely on himself."
"We just work for a living! How are we supposed to defy our boss?" the woman cried indignantly. "Besides, Clement was the one who tortured your father! My husband didn't participate in that! You can't pin everything on him!"
Camilla's heart turned completely to ice. "So doing nothing makes him innocent?
"He knew exactly where my father was locked up. He knew exactly how he was being tortured. And he chose to look the other way. If he had leaked that information sooner, my father wouldn't have rotted in that basement for years. The moment he chose silence, he became an accomplice. There is absolutely nothing sympathetic about him."
"You're just being cruel!" the woman shrieked. "I've said it a hundred times, it was the boss's orders! What's a regular employee supposed to do? We need to make money, we need to feed our family! We..."
"But you knew it was dirty money from the start!" Camilla cut her off, her voice cracking like a whip. "You knew perfectly well that what you were doing crossed every legal boundary, but you kept at it because the paycheck was too good to give up. You should have known this day was coming."
Looking at the woman's tear-stained face, Camilla felt nothing but absolute disgust. "I am not entertaining this conversation. But if you keep harassing me, I will press charges for harassment."
"Ms. Camilla, we're both women! Do you really have to be this ruthless? You..."
"Don't use our gender to manipulate me," Camilla fired back. "If I chose to forgive that absolute scum just because we're both women, I'd be betraying my father. If you refuse to leave me and my family in peace, I'm calling the cops."
Furious, the woman lunged forward to grab Camilla's shirt, but a nurse quickly intercepted her. "Wanda, you've made your scene. Ms. Camilla has made her stance clear. You need to leave right now. If something happens to that baby, nobody here is taking the blame."
"Leave? Why should I leave? I haven't gotten Zack out yet!" Wanda screamed, her pathetic act dropping entirely. "You heartless bitch! Aren't you afraid of karma? You're going to be a mother one day—don't you want to build some good karma for your kid?"
