Divorced the Cheat Married the Fleet (Camilla and Lance) novel Chapter 95

Barnard managed to calm Davina, and the chaos in the neighboring house finally settled. Everything went back to normal as the staff bustled around, getting back to their routines.

Camilla hadn’t been able to see what had gone on inside, but now that it was peaceful again, she figured whatever happened must be over.

But her mind kept drifting back to that moment when Barnard had scooped Daisy into his arms out in the yard. She was almost certain he’d discovered the camera she’d hidden at Saddlebrook Estates. From now on, she knew, Barnard would be even more alert at home.

Getting dirt on him through Saddlebrook Estates was going to be a whole lot harder, but then her gaze drifted over to Lance’s balcony. From there, she realized, she could see just about everything. It was the perfect spot to keep an eye on things.

Turning to Lance, a mischievous smile flickered in her eyes. “Lance, want to do a little business?”

Lance cocked an eyebrow, looking relaxed as he leaned on the balcony railing. There was an easy smile on his lips as he opened a hand toward her. “Alright, I’m listening.”

“I want to rent your balcony,” Camilla said. “You can decide the price.”

“Any price I want?”

“Don’t worry, I won’t disturb your life. I just plan to set up a camera, that’s all. You’ll only need to have Jackson send me the footage every now and then,” she added.

Lance looked away for a second, his eyes landing on some spot in the distance. “There’s already a camera here. But come on, Camilla, I’m kind of a big deal around here. If people find out I’m helping you spy on your husband’s cheating, that won’t exactly look good for me, you know?”

“If it’s a problem…”

Camilla could see now her idea had been a bit impulsive. She was just about to let it drop when Lance cut in, “Hold on. Who says it’s not possible?

I just mean I’m not interested in keeping tabs on your husband for you. If you want to use the camera footage, you’ll have to come by and pick it up yourself.”

“Isn’t that too much trouble for you? I mean, I can always ask your butler or one of the maids—”

“What? Are you trying to have everyone thinking I’m some weirdo who enjoys watching other people’s affairs?

Let’s just keep this between you and me. If you want the footage, come get it yourself on a regular schedule. If not, then forget the whole deal,” Lance said.

The way Lance responded struck Camilla as a bit strange.

He never seemed like someone who cared what other people thought.

But everyone has their lines. Camilla decided not to push it and quickly agreed. “Alright, so what do you want in return?”

She checked if Lance had any other requests, and agreed to all of them. When they headed downstairs, they found Jasper still sitting nicely at the dining table, finishing his meal.

The big Alaskan Malamute and Snow flopped on either side of his feet.

The moment was peaceful and kind of perfect.

As soon as Jasper saw Camilla, he lit up. “Mom, you’re finally back! Lance made such good food, you have to come and taste it!”

“Oh really?” Camilla smiled. “Even better than the food I make?”

Jasper paused, caught between honesty and loyalty. After a moment, he nodded. “I think so. Lance is better than you, but just by a little. I promise, just a tiny bit.”

“Wow, you’ve only known Lance for a couple days and you already think he beats your mom?” Camilla teased, pretending to pout. It surprised her to see Jasper get so attached to someone. Even when Dahlia had looked after him, Jasper hadn’t acted this close.

Kids never fake their feelings. Camilla might not know why, but she could tell that Lance genuinely cared about Jasper.

Jasper piped up, “But Mom, Lance is awesome! He plays with me, he knows all the things I like, and his cooking is amazing. Honestly, Lance is just better than everyone else.”
