Chapter 108

Élijah’s POV

The silence inside the living room of my condo was so heavy you could have cut it with a knife.

I sat on the edge of the leather armchair, my elbows resting on my knees, staring down at the Persian rug between my feet.

I had just laid everything bare: the entire timeline, the manufactured alliance, the lie about Lexi… every single details.

I braced myself for the fallout. I expected the immediate razzing, the loud curses, or Jace shouting at me for being an idiot. But nobody said a word.

“Well?” I finally muttered, looking up. “Nothing?”

“Man, you screwed up bad,” Nate said, shaking his head as he leaned back against the sofa. “I’m genuinely speechless/

“Bro, why didn’t you just fucking go up to her and initiate a regular conversation?” Jace asked, his voice thick with genuine frustration. “To actually get to know her? What you did was a weak-ass move, Eli. You managed a whole strategy just to avoid talking to a girl normally.”

I let out a long breath, running my fingers down my face until my palm caught on my jaw. “I know.”

The truth of his words pressed into me. There wasn’t an hour in the last seventy-two where I hadn’t asked myself the exact same thing.

I had been so consumed with breaking through her armor that I had built a labyrinth instead of just walking up to her doorstep.

The living room fell into another thick quiet, the guys all processing the sheer mess I had landed myself in, before Miles broke the silence from his spot by the kitchen counter.

“We need to fix this, Eli, Miles insisted, tossing a stray pen onto the counter. “We aren’t going to sit around and watch you lose Victoria. We’ve all seen how much she’s changed your dull, miserable life in just these few months. You were barely human before she showed up.”

Leo whistled in agreement, pointing a finger at me. “He’s right. You were a freaking robot.”

“You’re going to have to do a hell of a lot more than just sending letters and gifts to Adele’s place,” Miles added, crossing his

arms.

“What do you want me to do, Miles? Give her my soul?” I deadpanned, my defensive guard slipping back into place for a split second.

To my absolute surprise, all four of them yelled in unison, “Hell yeah!”

“Carter, you need to make this real,” Nate structuralized, leaning forward and anchoring his gaze on mine.

“Fuck that fake arrangement. It’s dead anyway.”

I blinked, momentarily thrown off by the intensity in his face.

“What are you talking about?”

“Come on, you really like Victoria, bro. It’s glaringly obvious to everyone with eyes,” Nate explained, his tone softening but remaining firm.
