Chapter143
On the bustling city avenue, the neon lights of the cars behind them merged into a long, glittering river of stars.
A prosperous city, ablaze with lights.
Inside the car, the temperature was comfortable, filled with the subtle scent of lavender, as Damon focused on driving.
City lights streamed through the window, illuminating Aubrey Hayes’s somber face. She leaned against the leather seat, gazing at the urban landscape, lost in thought.
“Did you have a drink?” Damon Blackwood’s gentle voice broke the silence.
Aubrey responded softly, “A little, not much.”
“You seem down. Is it because of Garrett Miller?”
“He’s annoying, for sure, but not enough to make me unhappy. It’s something else.”
“Tell me about it. Don’t keep it bottled up.”
After a few silent seconds, Aubrey turned to Damon, asking with a helpless tone,“Damon, I saw Ryan Carter and Lily Moore having dinner together. It looks like it’s Lily’s daughter’s birthday today. Now I’m torn about whether to tell Sierra.”
Damon sighed wearily. “Ryan really doesn’t appreciate what he has. If you want to say something, say it. Don’t overthink it.”
“But…” Aubrey frowned, her heart heavy and aching.“If I say something, Ryan will think I’m trying to destroy his family, stirring up trouble. He warned me not to tell Sierra. He says he just feels sorry for that autistic child and that there’s nothing inappropriate going on with Lily. I really don’t want to be the cause of their divorce.”
“You’re not the one to blame, Ryan is.”
“If I don’t say anything, Sierra won’t know, and she won’t push for a divorce.”
“Would that make you happy?”
“No, it would make me miserable.”
Damon gripped the steering wheel, calmly stating, “Aubrey, I’m a guy, I understand how guys think. Ryan isn’t just feeling sorry for that kid. He can’t let go of the past, he can’t let go of his ex. Sometimes emotional cheating is even worse.”
“Okay, I get it.” Aubrey pulled out her phone and sent a message to Ryan.
[I’m giving you three days to come clean to Sierra yourself. Otherwise, I’ll tell her myself about your date with Lily Moore at that private restaurant.]
After sending the message, Aubrey turned to look at Damon’s handsome profile.“Damon, would you ever betray me like Ryan did?”
Damon chuckled softly, turning his head to meet her gaze, his eyes intense.“I never would, but I’m more worried about you.”
“Worried about what?”
“Worried that you’ll leave, that you’ll betray me, that you’ll suddenly stop loving me.”
“I never thought the great and honorable Damon Blackwood could be so insecure.”
Damon sighed with a touch of bitterness. “Hey, it’s your fault for being so heartless.”
Aubrey fell silent, turning to gaze at him, her eyes glistening with a hint of sadness.
These sudden, unprompted waves of melancholy were a lingering symptom of her depression. She knew it wasn’t ideal, but she couldn’t seem to
control it.
She felt like she owed Damon so much.
It was late when they arrived back at Blackwood Crescent.
Aubrey emerged from the bathroom after showering and drying her hair, dressed in a seductive nightgown.
Damon, clad in black pajamas, was sitting on the lounge sofa, elbows resting on his knees, engrossed in his phone
She approached and sat at his feet, peering at his phone screen, her curiosity piqued. “What are you looking at?” she asked.
Damon’s gaze drifted down, settling on her flushed, pretty face, then lower to the tantalizing glimpse of her full, white breasts. The view was

undeniably alluring.
Aubrey noticed the screen was filled with data she didn’t understand, realizing it was work–related.
She tilted her head back, her eyes meeting Damon’s intense stare.
Damon’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he lowered his head, intending to kiss her soft, pink lips.
She playfully evaded his advance, glancing back down at his screen.“Working this late?”
“Just browsing,” Damon said, his Adam’s apple bobbed as he pursed his lips.

Aubrey suddenly moved between his legs, kneeling in front of him. Damon, startled, quickly set his phone aside, widened his stance, and leaned back, his voice husky.“Bree, what are you doing?”
“I’m not doing anything!” Aubrey replied, resting her hands on either side of his thighs.
The way she was kneeling, wearing that spaghetti–strap dress… even if she had no intentions, his mind was racing.
Damon cupped her face, lowered his head, and closed the distance between them until their breaths mingled. He whispered hoarsely, “All clear?”
“Clear for three days.”
“Only two days this time? That’s unusual.”
“I don’t know, I thought it was weird too, and it was so light.”
“I’ll have you see a specialist tomorrow to get you checked out.”
“Okay,” Aubrey nodded.
Damon kissed her, gently, lightly, a rough, low sound escaping his throat. “Tonight, you’ll regulate me first.”
Aubrey slowly stood from the floor, settling onto his lap and wrapping her arms around his neck as she kissed him deeply.
A kiss filled with burning desire.
Damon knew her well; whenever she wore a nightgown, it was her way of initiating things.
And it was always a very strong desire.
He carried her to the bed, dimmed the lights, and as they reached the peak of their passion, they discovered the last condom in the drawer was gone.
Damon lay on the bed, clearly frustrated, and grabbed his phone.“We’re out. I’ll have someone deliver some.”
Aubrey’s body felt like it was on fire, throbbing with need.
‘It’ll take too long. I’ll be asleep by the time they get here. Let’s just skip it this time.”
‘No way, that’s too risky.”
Aubrey snatched his phone, tossed it onto the nightstand, and leaned against his solid chest, whispering near his ear, “My period ended just two days
It’s still not a hundred percent.”
‘Don’t you want to try it… without any barriers?”
Bree…” Damon closed his eyes slowly, his breathing heavy and labored.
t was already too late.
She was so forward, and he simply couldn’t resist.
Tuesday midday arrived, bright and sunny.
