Chapter 145.
Outside the office, the area was deserted, the reception desk unmanned.
Aubrey felt incredibly weak, utterly drained. Garrett Miller had his arm around her waist, guiding her towards the exit.
She didn’t even have the strength to speak, much less cry for help.
In that moment, she felt utterly hopeless, incapable of saving herself, helpless and terrified.
She knew Garrett Miller lusted after her, was infatuated with her, and harbored resentment because she rejected him. She regretted letting her guard down in the office, giving him the opportunity he needed.
Outside, the night was hazy, the lights around the building dim.
Garrett Miller steered her toward a car, his voice a sinister murmur in her ear:“Aubrey, don’t be scared. I’m taking you to the hospital. You’ll be fine
soon.”
He pulled out his car keys and pressed a button.
A sharp “beep, beep” echoed in the night.
Suddenly, two men with stern, cold faces stepped in front of him.
Garrett froze, startled, and looked at them, a guilty expression flickering across his face.“What do you want?”
One of the men was on his phone, while the other demanded, “What are you doing? Where are you taking her?”
Garrett, flustered and enraged, roared, “What’s it to you? She’s my colleague. She’s sick, and I’m rushing her to the hospital. Now, get out of my way.”
The man scoffed.“To the hospital? Then we’ll come with you.”
Garrett sized them up, his anger spiking.“Who are you? What business is it of yours?”
“You don’t need to know who we are, but we’re making it our business to look after your colleague.”
“Get lost,” Garrett yelled, his fury boiling over.
Aubrey’s head lolled back and forth, and through the haze, she saw two unfamiliar men. She couldn’t tell if they were good or bad.
Strangers usually didn’t get involved.
She opened her mouth, but she was too weak to speak. A wave of despair washed over her as she feared these men would abandon her.
If Garrett took her away, her life would be ruined forever.
Lost in despair, she slowly lost consciousness and slipped into a coma.
Garrett shoved past the stranger, carrying her toward his car.
Just as he yanked the car door open, the guy slammed his hand against it, his voice even, but firm. “If you think we’re harassing you, feel free to call the cops.”
Garrett, now seeing red, shoved at the guy.
Quick as lightning, the guy snatched Aubrey away, passed her to his buddy, then whirled back, grabbing Garrett’s arm. With a swift move, he pinned him against the car.
Garrett screamed in agony, “Aaaagh!”
“In broad daylight, in front of everyone, you’re just gonna snatch someone off the street?” Garrett howled, twisting in pain, trying to turn the tables. “This is illegal! You’re committing a crime!”
As the guy took Aubrey, he realized she was completely out, limp as a dishrag
“She’s passed out.”
The guy holding Garrett down cranked the pressure, snarling, “What the hell did you give her?”
Garrett writhed, still trying to weasel his way out “Aaaagh! It hurts! She’s sick! I was taking her to the hospital!*
“Not gonna talk, huh?” The guy’s voice was ice.“You’re done.”

Garrett wouldn’t budge. “I’m her colleague. She’s sick, I’m taking her to the hospital. It’s that simple.”
15 Coins By Check
Knowing Garrett was a lawyer, and knew the law inside and out, they realized they wouldn’t get anything useful by pushing him. They decided to stall
for time.
About ten minutes later, Damon screeched to a halt.
The car barely stopped before he was out, his expression a mask of dark urgency as he raced towards Aubrey
“Mr. Blackwood,” the man said respectfully, handing Aubrey over.
Damon, slightly breathless, his worried gaze fixed on Aubrey’s pale, unconscious face, scooped her up into his arms. His icy glare shot towards Garrett
Garrett’s face paled at the sight of Damon. He swallowed nervously, trying to appear calm.
“Don’t hand him over to the police just yet,” Damon ordered coldly.
“Yes, Mr. Blackwood,” the man replied, pushing Garrett towards another car.
Garrett panicked, struggling and shouting, “What the hell do you think you’re doing? Lawyer Hayes wasn’t feeling well, I was just trying to help, nor hurt her! What right do you have to kidnap and imprison me?”
The man shoved Garrett into the car.
Damon hurriedly placed Aubrey in the car, reclined the seat, fastened her seatbelt, and sped to the hospital.
Late that night, Damon stayed with Aubrey as she underwent a series of tests.
Physically, she was fine, but the tests revealed traces of a sedative in her system.
This wasn’t some pharmaceutical–grade sedative; it was a street drug, the kind traded in the criminal underworld, potent enough to knock someone
out for hours.
Hearing the doctor’s words sent a chill down Damon’s spine, a wave of dread washing over him.
The vast fields were alive with the chaotic chirping of insects.
Inside a dilapidated, damp shack, a dim light barely pierced the oppressive darkness of the cramped room.
Garrett was bound and tossed into a corner, a gag stuffed in his mouth.
Panic consumed him, his pupils dilated, and he trembled uncontrollably, staring at the two men before him with terror.
He had thought he’d be handed over to the police. Without surveillance footage or solid evidence, no matter how high–ranking, they wouldn’t be able to touch him.
He believed he could use his lawyer status and familiarity with the law to get away scot–free.
He had it all figured out, but never in his wildest dreams did he imagine it would come to this.
To be kidnapped and dragged to this desolate place.
In Garrett’s mind,
Chase’s second son, Damon Blackwood, was an aerospace engineer, known for his gentle nature and upright character–a law–abiding and disciplined gentleman. How could he possibly be involved in something illegal and criminal?
Now, Evan couldn’t save him, and neither could the police.
The door creaked open.
Garrett Miller flinched violently, his eyes wide with terror as he watched the man walk through the doorway.
