Do You Still Love Me When We Meet Again? (Aubrey and Damon) novel Chapter 218

Chapter 218: Falling for Him All Over Again

After a long, exhausting day, she finally made it home.

Aubrey showered, dried her hair, and collapsed onto the bed. She pulled up the Grid and checked her messages. Damon hadn’t sent her a single thing all day.

Not a word, not even a quick emoji. It wouldn’t have taken more than a few seconds.

But there was nothing.

Didn’t he say he was going to win her back? His idea of “pursuing” her was confusing as hell.

She checked the time-10:30 PM. He was probably still working overtime. His job was demanding enough as it was; she didn’t want

o be a distraction.

After a bit of self-soothing, Aubrey put her phone down and tried to tuck her longing away. Lights out. Covers up. Sleep.

That frantic pace continued for about a week.

Still no word from Damon.

t wasn’t until Friday evening that her phone finally buzzed. It was Ryan.

He sounded like hell-miserable and full of self-contempt. “Aubrey… I’m such an idiot. You were right about everything. Is that offer you made still on the table?”

What offer?” Aubrey asked, confused.

The ‘friends and family’ discount for a lawyer.”

What kind of lawsuit are we talking about?”

I’m suing Lily. I want every cent back-everything I spent on her, plus the money I lent her without a paper trail. All of it.” Ryan’s oice shook with pure rage.

Aubrey was a professional. She didn’t laugh at her clients, but this was too much. A snort escaped her before she could clap a hand. ver her mouth. She cleared her throat, took a deep breath, and forced herself back into lawyer mode. “Are you two legally narried?”

We hadn’t gotten around to it yet.”

Let me guess. You caught her cheating?”

Yeah,”

Got it. When are you free? Come by my office and we can go over the details.”

I’m free now, actually. But it’s late, and I don’t want to keep you after hours. How about tomorrow morning?”

Aubrey paused. “You’re back from the base?”

Just got in today, Ryan said, sounding surprised. “Wait, didn’t Damon tell you?”

Aubrey’s heart sank. She hadn’t received a single message from Damon on the Grid. She quickly changed the subject. Come to my office at nine tomorrow morning.”

Got it,” Ryan replied.

Aubrey didn’t waste any more time. She hung up, grabbed her bag and phone, and rushed out of the office.

Half an hour later, she pulled into Blackwood Crescent.

It was mid-November, and the air was biting cold. The sun set early this time of year, leaving the driveway lined with dim yellow lights. The house was pitch black. She parked in the garage and stepped out, her eyes immediately darting toward Damon’s resin.

No lights there, either.

The massive estate was silent, shrouded in a heavy, dark gloom.

Usually, the housekeeper would have dinner ready and the lights on, waiting for her to get back.

A sudden wave of loneliness washed over her. Disappointment and isolation gnawed at her, and the ache she felt for Damon hit a breaking point. She let out a long sigh and dialed his number.

She dragged her feet toward the house, listening to the phone ring.

The call connected, and Damon’s deep, magnetic voice came through. “Bree.”

It had been so long since she’d heard his voice that she felt a sudden urge to cry. “Damon,” she murmured, her voice soft and low. Are you home?”

I’m back.”

Where are you?”

Behind you.”

Aubrey froze. She spun around to face him.

Damon was standing right there on the garden path. He wore a mid-length black coat, his tall, lean frame cutting a sharp silhouette gainst the hazy twilight. He looked breathtaking.

He was still holding the phone to his ear, one hand shoved in his pocket. Standing under the bare branches of a tree, his gaze was ntense, a faint smile playing on his lips.

It’s not the same,” Aubrey said, a pang of annoyance hitting her. I had to find out you were back from Ryan.”

Legal stuff. A case.
