Do You Still Love Me When We Meet Again? (Aubrey and Damon) novel Chapter 230

Chapter 230: Damon Doesn’t Love Her Anymore?

To the Blackwoods, Aubrey was already family.

Zach bolted upright. He stormed over and grabbed Damon by the collar, yanking him to his feet. He glared at him, his eyes cold and sharp. What the hell do you mean you don’t love her? Aubrey never asked for a ring or a title. She moved thousands of miles to New Haven City just to be with you. She got pregnant, suffered a miscarriage, and went through depression and surgeryall for you! And now that she’s lost her memory, you’re just going to throw her away? Take it back. Right now. Or I swear, I’m not letting this go.

Damon let out a bitter laugh. Go ahead, Zach. Hit me if you want. I won’t fight back.

Zach’s fists were clenched so tight his knuckles turned white, the veins on the back of his hands bulging. But he could see itthe glint of forced tears in Damon’s bloodshot eyes.

Victoria panicked. She rushed over and grabbed Zach’s arm. Zach, stop! Don’t do anything rash. He must have a reason, or maybe this is all just a misunderstanding. Let’s just calm down and talk.

Tracy Avas just as scared of her big brother’s fist. She lunged forward and grabbed his other arm. Zach, no! One punch and you’ll ruin his face. Don’t be impulsiveit’d be a total waste to wreck a face that goodlooking.

Zach’shoved Damon away, releasing his grip on his collar. He turned toward Aubrey, his voice dropping to a gentle tone. Aubrey, don’t stay here another second. Go pack a bag and come stay with me and Olivia. If he doesn’t want you, fine. I’m claiming you as my sister.

Standing by her husband, Olivia stood up immediately. He’s right, Aubrey. Come stay with us. Our place is huge, and you’ll be

much more comfortable there.

Victoria spoke up quickly, stopping them. No, nodon’t go over there and crowd them. Aubrey, come home with us. You’ll stay at our place with your father and me.

Tracy was already on the move, eager to help. I’ll go pack her bags. Let’s get out of here right now.

Damon stood there, paralyzed. His deep eyes looked like murky, disturbed water, every flicker of light slowly fading until his gaze went completely hollow.

He didn’t say a word, his fists clenched tight at his sides.

He watched Tracy come out of the room, carrying Aubrey’s purse and luggage.

He watched his mother take Aubrey by the arm and lead her toward the door.

He watched as they all walked away. One by one, they left him behind.

Before Zach left, he gave Damon a hard shove on the shoulder. Get your head straight,he warned. Don’t do something you’ll regret for the rest of your life.

Damon collapsed onto the sofa, his body heavy and lifeless. His eyes were vacant, his soul devoured, and his heart felt like a hollow

void.

The living room fell dead silent. It was eerily quiet.

A sea of bloodred mist seemed to cloud his vision, shimmering with unshed tears. He closed his eyes, the pain in his chest so sharp he couldn’t catch his breath. He opened his mouth, gasping for air.

Time ticked by, second by agonizing second.

He hunched over, his shoulders sagging as if crushed by an invisible weight. He buried his face in his hands, taking deep, shuddering breaths, trying to dull the throbbing ache behind his ribs.

He’d played the villain. He’d been the one to call it quits.

Aubrey could leave now without any guilt or hesitation. She didn’t have to worry about letting anyone down. She could just walk away from him, free and clear.

The thought made him laugh.

It was a broken, bitter sounduglier than any sob. Tears and snot streamed down his face. His heart wrenched with every spasm of his chest, and his entire body began to shake.

He only hoped that once she married someone else, she would never, ever regain her memory.

Outside, the streets were empty. The city was a ghost town. Dim yellow streetlights cut through the darkness, illuminating the fine, powdery snow swirling through the night air.

Aubrey and Tracy sat in the back while Chase drove. Victoria was in the passenger seat. The whole way home, the car was silent, filled only with the hum of the heater.

Aubrey leaned her head against the window, her breath fogging up a small patch of glass. She traced the name Damon* with her fingertip. The cold glass stung her skin, an ache traveling from her finger straight to her heart. Before she could finish the last stroke, the condensation began to streak like tears, blurring the name until it vanished.

She stared at the snow outside. It was falling so gently.

But Damon didn’t love her anymore.

It had only been a month and a half since she’d woken up from surgery.

She couldn’t understand why she was still so stuck on him. It was like her memories were blocked, but her love for him was buried deep in her heartetched into her bones and flowing through her blood.

She couldn’t erase it. She couldn’t move on. She was still completely under his spell.

It was late into the night by the time they got home.

Victoria and Tracy walked her to her room.

Tracy grabbed her arm. Aubrey, let me stay with you tonight.

Aubrey forced a stiff smile, trying to look strong. Thanks, Tracy. But I just want to be alone and get some sleep. I’ll be fine

tomorrow.

Victoria said, Aubrey, don’t you worry. If that idiot actually goes through with this breakup, then I’m adopting you. You’ll be my daughter, and this will always be your home.

Tracy nodded, a supportive smile on her face. Exactly. Mom’s right. We’re your family forever. If my brother is too stupid to keep you, we still want you. You’ll be my sister and Mom’s daughter.

Tears instantly blurred Aubrey’s vision. She was moved beyond words, and suddenly, the crushing weight in her chest didn’t feel so

heavy anymore.

She looked at them through the shimmer of tears, a small, grateful smile breaking through. Thank you, Mom. Thank you, Tracy.

Don’t overthink it. Just get some rest,Victoria said, stroking the back of her head. Come find me if you need anything, okay?

I’m right next door,Tracy added. You can come to me, too.

Aubrey’s throat felt tight. She nodded, fighting the urge to break down.

Victoria led Tracy out, finally giving her some space.

Aubrey didn’t feel like exploring the room. She just washed her face, crawled into the large bed, and shut off the lights.

But she couldn’t escape him. Her mind was full of Damon.

She felt heavy and miserable. Sleep wasn’t coming anytime soon.

Suddenly, her phone buzzed twice on the nightstand.
