Ment
Josie felt her own temper flare.
She wasn’t the type to stick her nose in other people’s business anyway.
If the base and I weren’t on decent terms, I wouldn’t have bothered with this shit.
Sure, once Cyrus got inside, he’d feast on the humans. After eating that many people, he’d hit Level 6 and become a true Alpha in
no time.
So what?
I’d just keep grinding, killing every undead I saw to level up.
It’s just a fight. Just another day putting my life on the line. Not like I haven’t done it a thousand times already.
If I could take down enemies way above my level once, I could do it twice. Three times. As many times as it took.
Sooner or later, she’d catch up to Cyrus. And when she did, she’d take him down for good.
As for the people at the sanctuary? They were on their own. Good luck to them.
When they reached the rendezvous point, Josie slammed the crates of supplies out of her storage space. They counted everything on the spot and split the loot.
Once she stashed her cut back into her space, she led the Blue Owl Squad away without a single look back.
“Ugh, who does she think she is? So stuck up!” Lily snapped, clearly pissed. “I didn’t want to talk to her anyway. Let’s go!”
The sanctuary group and Josie’s crew parted ways right then and there.
Cyrus followed Lily and the others, successfully making his way back to the sanctuary.
“New guy, get over here and register,” a guard at the gate barked at Cyrus. “You a Super?”
Before Cyrus could even open his mouth, Lily jumped in. “Open your damn eyes and look! He’s a Level 4 Super!”
The guard’s attitude flipped instantly. He turned into a total kiss–ass. “Oh man, my bad! I didn’t see it!”
He even gave himself a light slap across the face. “Look at me and my big mouth! This guy is obviously a High–rank Super. Just look at his vibe. There’s no mistaking it!”
Lily finally looked satisfied. “Speed it up,” she barked. “We’ve got things to do.”
“Right away, right away!” The guard didn’t dare cross her. He skipped almost every protocol–no medical exam, no strip search. He just gave Cyrus a quick look–over, caught no scent of rot, and waved him through.
These people had no idea. They didn’t know that once the Undead hit Rank 5, they didn’t smell like decaying meat anymore. In fact, they carried a faint, floral scent.
Relying on old–school rules to spot a monster was a fatal mistake. They were walking straight into a trap.
Just like that, Cyrus successfully infiltrated The Sanctuary.
As he walked, the scent of more and more Supers hit him. Cyrus’s mouth started to water.
It was like a starving man walking into an all–you–can–eat steakhouse. The air was thick with the smell of fresh, prime meat. Who could resist a feast like that?
It took every ounce of Cyrus’s self–control not to start feeding right there on the spot.
But he wasn’t going to blow his cover yet. He wanted to maximize his gains. He was going to eat every last one of these Supers. He hadn’t put on this pathetic little act for nothing.

The guards led him away, and Cyrus’s new quarters were located right in the heart of the base–right next to the other High–rank Supers.
Cyrus made the request himself, and Lily went even further. She set him up in the dorms for single Supers.
