Chapter 222
Winnie looked at Jose, her expression blank I don’t really get it. Bog Sis”
“It’s okay. You will one day hoste pulled her hand back. her simile fading “Tuman nature it really is a disgusting thing” “After everything I’ve been through. I should’ve learned to mind my own business could just walk away and let it all burn ” Tve been burned so many times, learned the hard way over and over and yer, I still haven’t learned my lesson I still can’t just let it go”
“If you can’t let it go, then do something about it” Zane stepped up from behind her. “I’m with you”
“You’re here losie gestured to the seat across from her. “Sit.
Zane took the skewers from Winnie and started grilling them himself, specifically for Josie.
Winnie took the hint and made herself scarce.
This was a conversation between heavy hitters. She definitely didn’t belong there.
“I get what you’re worried about,” Zane said. “Now that Cyrus is in the base, knowing him, he’s going to go after the other Supers. If he wipes the place out, he’ll become a massive problem. We won’t be able to touch him then.” He paused, meeting her eyes. “So, you’re not meddling. Exposing him is just common sense. It’s for our own sake.”
Damn, Zane really knew how to talk.
A few sentences, and he’d hit the nail right on the head.
A small smile finally played on Josie’s lips. “Thanks for giving me an excuse to feel better about it.”
“Was I just see it for what it is,” Zane said, a smirk dancing in his eyes as he looked at her.
They both shared a quick laugh.
Zane and Cyrus were both top–tier eye candy, but they were worlds apart.
Zane was the rugged type–a total badass, through and through.
Cyrus was the dark, dangerously charming type. Before the world went to hell, he was a total lady–killer.
Both men were top–tier, just in different ways.
But they were both untouchable–ice–cold and way out of anyone’s league.
Zane spoke up again. “Since this blizzard isn’t letting up and we’ve got time to kill, want to head to the base and look around?” “Why not?” Josie grinned. “Nothing better to do. Let’s go check it out.”
I’ll get things ready.” Zane handed her the grilled meat he’d just finished. “Give me a minute.
Josie took the skewer and nodded.
Two hours later, they were fully geared up and hitting the base gates on sleds.
Josie was bundled up so tight you couldn’t even see her face.
But the golden blade in one hand and the shifting vines in the other? That gave her away instantly.
The gate guards practically tripped over themselves to open the doors. They wore huge, suck–up grins. “Ms Quinn! You’re here!”
“Yeah, just bored and looking for some fun,” Josie said as she walked in. She tossed a pack of smokes to the guard. Anything new happening at the base?”
“Nothing good, bur plenty of bad,” the guard said, pocketing the smokes. He got chatty fast. “People have been going missing lately. Just vanishing into thin air.

“Supers?” losic asked
“No way Ifa Super went missing, this place would lose its damn mind. It’s just kids,” the guard replied “The parents are losing it They’re camped out in front of the Base Commander’s office every day, begging for help
Not Supers?
Just kids?
What the hell was going on?
Zane spoke up. Anything else?”
“Other stuff? Well – yeah. A Level 4 Psychic Super showed up, and the girls here are going crazy, the guard said, leaning in with a gossipy grin. The lines to give him gifts are out the door every single day.”
