“Temps are dropping, bro!” Julian pointed at the icicles forming outside. “It’s freezing out there. Is the Undead Horde grounded?”
“Yeah,” Cyrus replied tonelessly. “The Silence has started. The Mutants are going into hibernation. This is the best chance for the Undead to
rise. This is our time.”
Cyrus stood up and headed for the door.
“Where are you going now, bro? Back to the base?” Julian asked.
“No,” Cyrus said. “I’m looking for a different way to level up. Eating humans isn’t the only way for the Undead to get stronger.*
“What other way?”
“Nuclear radiation.”
“You’re going to blow a nuke?”
“Yeah.”
The temperature finally bottomed out at minus 110 degrees.
The base wasn’t ready for it. That first night, people dropped like flies, frozen solid in their sleep.
When the sun rose the next day, it was a pale, sickly white. It didn’t give off a hint of warmth.
It looked tiny, like the sun had suddenly pulled away from the Earth.
Business was booming for the base’s body disposal crews that day.
There was a massive line of bodies waiting for the incinerator.
At least it was cold enough that the corpses were rock hard. They weren’t going to rot, so there was no rush to get through the pile. Why bother burning them, though? Why not just bury them?
It’s a no–brainer.
You bury a body, and five minutes later, the Undead or some Mutants will dig it up for a snack.
Besides, with this deep freeze, the ground was like solid concrete. You could swing a pickaxe until sparks flew and you still wouldn’t make a dent in the dirt.
What else were we supposed to do? Burning the bodies was the only choice.
Josie shut down all outdoor activities immediately.
Even their training moved to the basement. They cranked the furnaces to the max, burning through fuel like it was free.
It barely kept the room at fifty degrees.
But even with the hellish conditions, Josie didn’t slow down for a second.

Simple. They had a top–tier Plant–type Super right there.
She healed them one by one.
Once they were patched up, she sent them right back to work. Train until you drop.
With Josie around, Quinshaw Base didn’t even need to hire a medical team.

Josie set a brutal daily Schedule for herself. Then, she’d smash those goals and keep going until she was spent.
Before, she’d needed to use momentum just to swing her greatsword effectively.
