“Not a word about today,” Josie snapped. “If June or Sylvia find out even a single detail, I’ll kill you. I mean it.”
“Actually, tell them. See if I care. I’ll just kill all three of you. You’re all powerless against me anyway.”
Josie glared at Arthur, her eyes dripping with malice. “So what if June is your daughter? Right now, I’m the one who’s going to rule the
world!”
“I know, I know! That’s why I’m begging you take me with you!” Arthur looked at her, his eyes wide with desperation. “I’m your father, Josie! For God’s sake, I’m the reason you’re even in this world. Give me a break here. Let me live!”
“Relax. The scavengers from Haven City aren’t getting in here,” Josie said coldly. “Just stay put and enjoy the show. Let’s see what kind of ‘destiny‘ June has waiting for her.”
Josie flashed him a twisted, unsettling smile.
She knew exactly why he’d been hiding that Tier–7 Essence Core. It wasn’t because it was “too beautiful to part with.” That was a lie. He’d been playing both sides, waiting to see who had more potential–her or June.
The second he realized she was the one with the real power, he’d dropped June like a piece of trash and tried to hitch his wagon to her. It made sense now. In the first timeline, she’d never even known this core existed. Why? Because Arthur had given it to June. That core was June’s ticket. It was what made her the “Main Character” of that first life, the one the world chose to favor.
But this time?
Josie tossed the Tier–7 core into the air, caught it, and shoved it into her storage space. She turned on her heel and walked out. In this life, she was the one calling the shots. She was the one who would rule it all!
Who gives a damn who Mom really is? Her identity, her reason for being in this world–none of that mattered.
Why overthink it?
Just get the job done.
Once she reached the top of the food chain, the truth would come out on its own.
After Josie left, June and Sylvia walked back in.
One look at the trashed room told them everything. The “talk” had been a disaster.
Arthur looked up and sighed. “June, stop picking fights with your sister. Just let it go.”
“Excuse me?” June let out a cold, sharp laugh. “Just because she’s more ‘useful‘ now? Because she’s got more power, you’re ready to toss us aside and crawl back to her?”
“It’s not like that!” Arthur scrambled to explain. “I’d never abandon you two. Josie and I… that bridge is already burned. I’m just saying, if we can just switch to easy mode and coast, why bust our asses struggling?”
“No way,” June snapped. “I am never bowing down to Josie. Dad, I know exactly what you’re doing. You’re just weighing your options.” “But I’ll prove you wrong,” she hissed, her teeth clenched. “I’ll show you. I’m going to be better than she ever was.”
Meanwhile, Josie took her sweet time walking back.
