Chapter 245
“What makes you say that?” Zane asked, glancing at her. “Did something happen? Talk to me. Maybe we can figure it out together.”
“It’s hard to explain. Here, look at this.” Josie pulled the Tier–7 Undead Core from her storage space and handed it to him. “What do you
think this is?”
“Whoa, this is a beautiful gem.” Zane turned it over in his hands, examining it from every angle. Then he froze. “Wait. No, this isn’t a
gemstone.”
“Then what does it look like to you?” Josie asked.
“I don’t know. I can’t put my finger on it, but it feels… weird.” He handed the core back to her. “What is it?”
“A Tier–7 Undead Core,” Josie said flatly.
Zane stopped dead in his tracks. He stared at her, eyes wide with shock. “You’re kidding, right?”
“Do I look like I’m joking? Relax. There isn’t a Level 7 undead in the world yet. If there were, every human on earth would just be on the menu. Nobody could touch a thing like that.”
“Then this core…”
“My mom left it to me right before she died.”
Zane’s eyes nearly bulged out. “That… how is that even possible?”
“I know, right?” Josie sighed. “But here we are.”
“I’ve actually wondered if she was some time traveler from the future who came back just to have me, and then left me this core. See? It’s that whole ‘chicken or the egg‘ paradox.”
“If my mom hadn’t come back from the future, I wouldn’t exist.”
“And if I didn’t exist, she never would’ve gone back in time to begin with!”
Zane’s head was spinning. “That’s a total mind–f**k. But how are you so sure she was a time traveler?”
I can’t explain it,” she said. “It’s just the only conclusion that makes sense.”
If she could be reborn, why couldn’t her mother be a traveler?
It was obvious, wasn’t it?
But she couldn’t say that out loud.
Her rebirth was her ultimate secret. She’d take it to her grave.
“Whatever, I’m done overthinking it,” Josie said. “Even if this whole world is just a simulation, it’s real to us. We feel pain. We feel joy. We get pissed, and we feel happy. That’s real enough for me.”
“Even if this world is a lie, the feelings we put into it are real.”
“Then let’s just see how this plays out.”
Zane nodded. “You’re right. No matter what happens, I’ve got your back.”
Josie gave him a small smile.

They picked up the pace and headed back.
It was still freezing outside.
Even with their heavy gear and high–rank powers, the cold was starting to bite.
Everyone else stood zero chance.
Back home, Josie grabbed a hand warmer and sank into her rocking chair, swaying back and forth.
She gripped the Tier–7 undead core so tight it started to feel warm against her skin.
If this world really was some endless loop, things were about to get interesting.
But so what?
