Doomsday Revenge: Payback Time (Josie) novel Chapter 300

Lord Vane let out a bitter, hollow laugh 7 honestly don’t know I haven’t even heard of them

Before he turned, I ord Vane had been a total nobody in Newport City

He worked a deadend job for peanuts. He was just another face in the crowd, the kind of guy your’d never rustice

Then the world went to hell overnight

He was unlucky enough to get turned into an Undead.

But then his luck flipped He awakened a Pyro ability, and his raw potential was off the charts.

Hed clawed his way up on pure instinct. Bit by bit, his memory returned, and his power swelled until he reigned supreme over every undead in Newport City

Honestly? He was only a hair’s breadth behind Cyrus.

Without Cyrus in the picture, the title of Undead King would have been his, no question.

Think about itno special help, no shortcuts. Just raw, savage siphoning. To hit the peak of Level 5 on nothing but blood and guts? Talented wasn’t even the word for it. He was a naturalborn monster.

But life’s a bitch, and there’s always a bigger fish.

With a titan like Cyrus around, every other zombie looked like a pathetic joke. They weren’t even in the same league.

You actually don’t know?Cyrus raised an eyebrow. Fine. Put the word out. Every zombie in this city starts hunting. Scour every inch of ground. I don’t care if it’s buried ten feet underfind it.

Lord Vane choked back his frustration and bowed his head. Yes, sir!

Cyrus stood up. He didn’t even give Vane a second glance as he headed for the exit.

The moment they brushed past each other, Vane’s entire body locked up.

The soulcrushing pressure of an Alpha hit zombies way harder than humans ever could. It was an animalistic fear, wired into their very DNA

Cyrus was gone

Lord Vane finally let out a long, shaky breath.

Lord Vane’s expression was grim

He’d always been cocky about his potential and his raw power

Under his command, the humans had been losing ground, forced into a desperate retreat

For a while there, he really thought he was going to be the king of this new world

But today’s fight was a massive reality check. He finally saw the canyonsized gap between himself and Cyrus.

A psychic superpower was a total cheat code. It let you punch two levels above your weight class.

That meant if he wanted to even stand a chance against Cyrus, he’d need to hit Level 8. At least.

Right

By the time he reached Level 8, Cyrus would’ve probably swallowed him whole just to use him as a power boost

Lord Vane let out a bitter laugh and shook his head. He had no choice but to fall in line and carry out Cyrus’s orders

Men

He rounded up his top lieutenants and barked out his instructions. Listen up! I want intel. Scour every inch of this place and find the Nuclear Research Center and the military base. Now!

His men exchanged confused looks. Boss, what’s the play? Why are we looking for those? Are the humans at the Sanctuary pulling some new bullshit?

It’s not my call. Cyrus wants them, Vane muttered, sounding pissed. He’s on a different level. If I can’t take him, you guys don’t stand

a praver

Don’t say I didn’t warn you. That guy is a straightup monster.

Hell, he might just be the next Undead King.

The group of undead stared at each other in shock.

Enough standing around. Get moving. If you have to, infiltrate the Sanctuary to find out. Someone there has to know something.Lord Vane waved them off, looking bored. Now go.

“Yes, Lord Vane!

The pack of undead scattered.

Lord Vane let out a selfdeprecating laugh. Storm’s coming to Newport City. There’s no way Cyrus stays top dog forever. I can’t wait to see the day someone actually kicks his ass. Ha!
