Chapter 308
The rest of the trip was pretty smooth.,
Nothing major went down.
They hit a few Undead here and there, but they were taken out in seconds.
Josie saw it clearly.
The Newport City locals were a different breed. They were way tougher than the crowd back in Fort City.
Most of them didn’t even have superpowers. They relied on pure muscle and grit to fight, but they still had the balls to go toe-to-toe with Tier-2 and Tier-3 undead.
They were savage. All blood and guts.
Josie gave a mental nod of approval. She liked their vibe.
It was the apocalypse. If you were still acting soft or entitled, you were basically asking to die.
If you wanted to live, you couldn’t rely on anyone but yourself.
So, Josie didn’t lift a finger. She just trailed behind the group, taking it slow.
Her job was to be the Mobile Vault, after all.
Unless it was a life-or-death situation, she wasn’t jumping in.
When they hit the drop zone, everyone fanned out. It was time to scavenge.
The city was a total wreck, a skeleton of its former self, but there was still plenty of loot worth hauling back and repurposing.
Stuff like bricks and stone slabs.
They were perfect construction materials for reinforcing the walls.
Even intact floor tiles were worth snagging.
Then there was the furniture-tables, chairs, benches. Everything had a use.
You couldn’t exactly live without the basics, could you?
If it was broken, you fixed it.
If it was beyond repair, you smashed it up for firewood.
The boiler room back at the base had a massive appetite, and it went through a hell of a lot of supplies every single day.
Even if they struck out on the big stuff, finding a few unbroken plates or bowls was still worth some credits.
Then there was the metal-rebar, door hinges, whatever they could rip out of the ruins. It all added up to a decent payday.
Usually, this stuff was way too heavy to haul back unless you had a massive crew.
But today was different. They had a Spatial Super Weight wasn’t an issue anymore.
The team fanned out, focusing on the heavy, compact loot. High weight, small size-that was the sweet spot for credits.
Hauling that back to base would net them a serious payout.
If luck was on their side today, they could earn enough credits to stay inside and kick back for a week, maybe even ten days
Everyone was locked in, working with a hell of a lot of energy.
Josie didn’t have much to do, so she just strolled down the street, hands behind her back like she was on a Sunday walk.
As she wandered, she suddenly felt a tiny tug at her feet.
She looked down. A thin vine, barely thicker than a strand of hair, was gently pulling at her pant leg.

asn’t a Grand Super with enhanced vision, she would’ve missed it entirely.
Mutant flora?
It hadn’t cleared out of the city?
It was still lurking here?
Josie crouched down, intrigued. She reached out and brushed her fingers against the tiny vine. It shivered, almost like she’d found its tickle spot, but it held onto her jeans with a stubborn little grip.
It was like the thing had decided it was never letting her go.
“Come on out,” Josie said. “Let me see the rest of you. I know you can understand me.”、
A long silence followed.
Finally, a low-hanging vine peeked out from behind a ruined house. It edged forward cautiously, showing just enough of itself for Josie to see, then-zip-it darted back into the shadows.
Josie actually laughed.
