Chapter 309
She’d dealt with shry people before but she’d never seen a plant with social anxiety. This little guy was on a whole other level.
“So, what do you want?” she asked
The little vine peeked out again, looking left and right like it was checking for witnesses. Once it was sure the coast was clear, it wiggled its way over to her. It waved its leaves around, making it pretty obvious it wanted to climb up and whisper a secret in her ear.
Josie chuckled again and held out her hand.
The little vine wobbled as it crawled onto Josie’s hand. It curled its leaves tight, looking up at her like she was its last hope.
Go ahead. Talk,” Josie said. She pushed her Plant Manipulation into the vine’s stem.
A second later, a soft, squeaky kid’s voice echoed in her mind. “Hi, Ma’am… I’m, Ivy.”
Damn, it was tiny.
Barely the size of her palm.
And it looked scrawny as hell, like it was suffering from major malnutrition.
You’re mutant flora,” Josie said, totally confused. “How did you end up so pathetic? Aren’t you supposed to hunt the undead? Or humans?”
vy’s voice shook. “Huh? I… I’m too scared! They’re so big. I could never eat them. I just stick to rats and ants. I used to find food, but now there’s nothing left. I can’t find anything to eat!”
When the other mutant plants moved to the suburbs, why didn’t you go with them?” Josie asked.
Wait, they left for the suburbs?” Ivy sounded completely lost. “Nobody told me! Not a single plant said a word!”
osie didn’t know whether to laugh or facepalm. “Are you really that invisible? Seriously?”
Yeah, I guess! I’m just a chicken,” Ivy said, fidgeting. “I’m scared of everything.”
Scared of what?”
I don’t even know. I just hide from everyone,” Ivy muttered, looking down in shame.
Then why aren’t you afraid of me?” Josie countered.
Because you smell like the King,” Ivy said. “It’s strong. Crazy strong. It’s the most powerful plant energy I’ve ever felt.”
osie arched an eyebrow.
Looks like Lirio had been feasting lately.
The energy was literally leaking off her as his host.
‘And?” Josie looked her over.
I want to come with you,” Ivy whispered. “I just want to eat my fill.”
Josie couldn’t hold it back anymore. She burst out laughing.
Who would’ve thought?
Even mutant plants had “secret rares.
A tiny, collectible coward of a secret rare.
Josie grinned. “I don’t keep dead weight around. Your stats are trash. I don’t need you.”
“But I’m useful! I can run errands really fast!” Ivy said, desperate to sell herself. “I know this whole area inside and out. I know every inch of the terrain!”
“I hunt rats everywhere, so I know the sewer systems under these buildings better than anyone! I know exactly what’s down there and whats not!
“Oh, really? Then do you know where the research lab is? How about the military base? You know where the nukes are hidden?”

Hut What’s a research tab? What are nukes? Ivy looked at Josie, totally blank.
Josie smacked her forehead.
She pulled out a pen and paper and sketched a few things out for Ivy right then and there.
Take a look. You seen these?” Josie was just messing with her. She didn’t actually think a plant this skittish-one that hid the second it saw a human-would have any idea where to find that kind of stuff.
But then, Ivy actually nodded. She pointed at the drawing of the lab. “I’ve been to this one!”
Josie’s expression shifted instantly. “What did you say? Where it?”
