Doomsday Revenge: Payback Time (Josie) novel Chapter 310

Chapter 310

Ivy freaked out, diving straight to Josie’s sleeve. She wouldn’t stop shaking.

And that was just because Josie had raised her voice a tiny bit.

Seeing the reaction, Josie immediately dropped her volume. She softened her voice, trying to sound as soothing as possible. It’s okay, Ivy Good girl. I wasn’t yelling at you. Can you tell me? Where exactly did you see that place?”

Ivy trembled as she poked her head back out of Josie’s sleeve. She extended a tiny, shaky vine and pointed toward the horizon. “Over… over there,” she whispered.

Lead the way.” Josie didn’t hesitate. She started moving instantly.

She’d barely taken two steps when a teammate shouted from behind, “Hey! Where the hell are you going?”

‘Gonna go pee!” Josie tossed the excuse over her shoulder without missing a beat. “Be right back! You guys keep looking!”

‘Alright, alright! Just make it quick!” the guy yelled back. “Don’t wander off too far. This city a deathtrap, and you never know where those undead are lurking. If you run into any, just bolt! Scream your head off and we’ll come running!”

Josie gave a sharp nod. “Got it!”

Not a bad bunch, she thought.

Sure, she was just a temporary teammate, and yeah, they were mostly being nice because they wanted access to her storage space. But whatever their reasons, at least they weren’t cold-blooded assholes. At least they weren’t just using her and throwing her away.

Smart move on their part.

With Ivy guiding her, Josie headed deeper into the ruins.

She finally stopped on a massive pile of rubble.

You sure the lab is here?” Josie asked Ivy.

Ivy’s vines curled, pointing straight down. “Not on the surface. It’s underground!”

Josie didn’t hesitate. She moved forward and began sweeping the debris into her spatial storage.

Sure enough, a dark, gaping hole appeared.

The opening was about five feet wide, cut deep into the ground.

f Ivy hadn’t pointed it out, nobody would ever believe this was a high-end research facility.

osie pressed her palm against the iron door. In a heartbeat, the lock snapped. She gave it a light shove, and the door creaked open.

There were no high-tech infrared sensors or crazy security systems.

ust a standard, heavy-duty iron door.

It made sense-back before the world went to hell, things were peaceful.

Nobody was stupid enough to try and break into a place like this.

Besides, the perimeter security used to be top-tier. Anyone looking for trouble wouldn’t have even made it past the front gates

The only reason the lab was built underground was because the radiation levels were too insane to handle on the surface.

Josie headed down the corridor.

A few steps in, the place was a total wreck.

Documents and files were scattered all over the floor, a complete mess.

Josie picked up a few pages from the floor. Junk Nothing important.

The desks were messy, but not trashed. No signs of a struggle.

looked like the evacuation had been rushed, but they’d kept it together. It was organized chaos.

That meant Sean was probably still alive.

Josie kept moving, sweeping everything she saw into her storage space.

She didn’t recognize half the lab equipment, but she didn’t care. It might be useful later. Finders keepers.

She looted the place as she went, piling the haul in a corner of her space. She’d let the geeks at the Agri-Science Institute deal with it later.

Science was science, right? They’d figure it out.

Ivy led the way perfectly. No wrong turns. They made it straight into the core zone without a hitch.

The room was stripped bare. Empty. Not a damn thing left.

Josie was about to turn back when Ivy’s voice piped up, small and hesitant. “Big Sister…I smell something. Something sweet, but… heavy. It’s coming from below. I want to eat it, but I’m scared.”
