Chapter 318.
Josie nodded, wasting no words. She raised her hand and swept the monkey corpses into her spatial storage. She would save them for Lirio.
She also took the chance to feed the poor little Ivy in her pocket.
The poor thing had likely never had a full meal since it mutated.
Menu
Josie tore off a few chunks of meat and, while the others weren’t looking, slipped them into her pocket. Ivy began to tremble with excitement. It was pure greed and hunger.
“Go on, eat up,” Josie whispered. “There’s more where that came from.”
Ivy moved her tiny, trembling vine-feet and latched onto the meat, adorably fierce as she sank her roots into the flesh. Then, she shuddered with pure, blissful joy.
*So tasty! So, so tasty!*
She hadn’t been full in so long. Her mistress was the best! Following her meant never going hungry again.
After eating her fill, Ivy crawled back into the depths of the pocket and began to snore happily. This was the first time she had been full since awakening her sentience. It was pure bliss.
“Let’s go. Move out,” Josie said, flicking the Iron Rod in a cool, effortless motion.
She had only joined this team recently, yet for some reason, even the captain was instinctively following her orders. This was the aura of a natural-born leader. No matter where she was or what team she was in, she commanded respect and obedience.
Strength was the eternal passport in the apocalypse.
For the rest of the journey, Josie walked in the lead with the team following behind. The dynamic had completely shifted.
Efficiency skyrocketed. Before the others could even react to a threat, Josie had already cleared it.
The more Cyrus tried to keep people in the city, the more she was determined to lead them out. She was going to that Military Naval Base, and nothing would stop her.
With Josie forcefully clearing the way, the team successfully cleared the city limits and headed toward the coast.
Newport City was a major coastal hub, a provincial-level city. Consequently, its ports were massive. The military naval port was even more gargantuan.
“We need to be careful from here on out,” the captain warned Josie. “The primary mutant threats in Newport City aren’t land animals-they’re marine life. When sea creatures mutate, they become truly terrifying.”
“As long as we don’t get too close to the water’s edge, we should be fine.”
“Even though they’ve evolved intelligence, their physiology dictates they stay in the ocean. They can’t walk on land yet.”
“But there are always exceptions. If we run into a giant Mutant Kraken, it’ll drag a human straight into the depths to feed.”
