Chapter 428.

“I wouldn’t usually lower myself to deal with trashi-tier mutant animals like this, otherwise I would have wiped it out the moment we arrived!”

Ivy, still dazed from sleep, mumbled, “Wait? Didn’t you say you wouldn’t have even cwight a single spider-trace of it if it hadn’t left that silk behind?”

“Shut up!” Lirio snapped.

“Oh,” Ivy whispered.

Josie couldn’t help but chuckle.

In the beginning, Lirio had been incredibly dismissive of the weak little Ivy. But lately, he took the little “runt” everywhere he went. And Ivy was the only one who could tease him without him actually getting angry. If any other plant dared to mock him, he would have beaten them to a pulp in an

instant.

Guided by Lirio, Josie quickly left the village and arrived at a hillside just behind the settlement.

A massive cave yawned open before her.

Josie pulled a flashlight from her space and switched it on. The sudden beam of light cut through the silent darkness, causing a rustle of movement within.

Josie walked into the cavern with flashlight in hand, but she only made it two paces before she stopped. There was no need to go any further. The entire cave was draped in thick layers of spider silk. Under the heavy webbing, dozens of cocoons hung or lay scattered about.

Just as Lirio had said, this spider wasn’t a picky eater. It caught whatever it could. But judging by the silhouettes of the cocoons, the vast majority of them were human.

It was no wonder this village had fallen into ruin so quickly. It seemed the residents of this town, and likely several surrounding ones, had all been dragged here to serve as food.

Mutant Fauna needed human flesh and blood to reproduce. Given the size of this nest, there was no telling how many spiderlings were currently growing inside the giant spider’s belly.

Josie thought for a moment and decided the spider shouldn’t be allowed to live.

She had no choice. She was on the side of humanity.

In this world, it wasn’t about right or wrong-it was about whose side you were on. If humans wanted to rule the planet again, the Mutant Fauna had to be pushed back to where they belonged: at the bottom of the food chain.

Josie handed the flashlight to Ivy.

The little wisteria plant tremulously used her delicate, thin vines to grip the flashlight firmly, shining the light ahead to illuminate the path for Josie. Josie raised her hand, and a small Bladestorm Array instantly formed.

The wasn’t large-only a few hundred small blades. The space was too, cramped to unleash a full-scale formation, Most of Josie’s moves were designed for open battlefields, and a small cave like this was far from ideal.

“Mistress, wait,” Lirio said. “I’ll lure it out. We should fight in the open. Otherwise, if the fighting gets too intense and blows the entrance up, it’ll be a waste of effort!”

The movement inside had already awakened the spider.

Countless strands of silk began to drift silently toward Josie, attempting to envelop her.

Josie let out a cold snort. She pulled out a flamethrower and unleashed a blast of fire at the ceiling and floor.

Webbing hated fire. Even the silk of a mutant spider couldn’t withstand the heat. The legendary “fireproof” silk only existed in novels and sci-fi for now; in reality, burned just like anything else.

The blast incinerated the webs, instantly clearing a large opening.

The giant spider finally realized its opponent was dangerous. It abandoned its nest and scuttled toward Josie.
