Chapter 429.
Lirio hit the ground, and his body instantly expanded.
Everything is at its cutest as a juvenile, but once they reached adulthood, the charm vanished. Who would have thought that a tiny flower tucked into Josie Quinn’s braid would become such a wild and arrogant entity once his roots touched the earth?
The Mutant Giant Spider inside the cave sensed Lirio’s threat. Unable to hold back any longer, it scuttled out with a frantic *click-clack of its legs.
Josie finally saw the creature in full.
What caught her attention wasn’t the spider’s size, but its abdomen. The belly was bloated to an extreme. It was so massive that it was completely out of proportion with the rest of its body.
Through the thin, translucent skin of its abdomen, she could see a dense mass of spiderlings wriggling and crawling over one another. For the first time, Josie cursed her sharp eyesight in the dark.
It was enough to make anyone’s skin crawl. Anyone with trypophobia would have fainted on the spot at the sight of it. The sheer number of spiderlings was staggering.
Then again, it had eaten so many people. If it didn’t produce a massive brood, those Human Cocoons would have gone to waste.
Lirio clearly saw the writhing mass as well. Without hesitation, he lashed out at the spider’s abdomen.
The Mutant Giant Spider immediately protected its belly, swinging its massive pincers to intercept Lirio’s attacking branches. The tree and the spider clashed instantly.
The two were locked in a back-and-forth struggle, trading blows.
As a plant, Lirio’s attack style was relatively simple: he used his branches like whips and spears. The spider had more variety, using its pincers for melee and its silk to bind and snare Lirio’s limbs.
The spider had plenty of silk, but Lirio had just as many branches. The two were locked in a stalemate.

of Josie’s head, Ivy was still tremulously holding the flashlight. She reached out a tiny vine and gave Josie’s ear a gentle tug. “Hmm?” Josie tilted her head slightly. “What is it?”
“Mistress, look! The spider is about to give birth!” Ivy whispered, her thin vines shaking as she pointing at the spider’s abdomen. “If those spiderlings are born, won’t it be a huge disaster?”
Josie looked.
*Damn!*
She was right. The spiderlings were already clawing their way out, desperate for their first breath of air.
Normally, spiders were oviparous-they laid eggs. They would lay a cluster of eggs protected by a silk sac, like a little suit of armor for the babies. Once the spiderlings developed, they would hatch and begin their lives.
