Chapter 449.

Ivy saw Josie Quinn’s expression turn grim and immediately switched her connection to a third snake, then a fourth, then a fifth.
Without exception, every snake was screaming and on the verge of a breakdown.
“Why do I have to face this? I only hatched three months ago! I don’t want to die!”
“So many snakes and so few humans… there isn’t enough meat for us to evolve! Are we all going to die here?”
“No, I can’t die! I have to eat a human! Even if I die, I’d rather die at the hands of a human than die in-”
Die in what?
Josie couldn’t hear the rest. The snake was just screaming hysterically.
If it were just one snake going crazy, she could write it off as an anomaly. But if the entire swarm was panicking, something terrible had
either happened or was about to.
But what?
She had to find the leader of this swarm and get some answers.
But with millions of snakes writhing together, how could she spot the one in charge?
“Cyrus! These snakes are out of their minds! Their brains are fried with terror!” Josie shouted, turning toward Cyrus Finch. “Can you find the strongest one among them? We need to know what’s going on, or we’re going to be sitting ducks!”
“You really know how to put me to work, don’t you?” Cyrus grumbled.
Despite the complaint, he followed Josie’s order. He began scanning the swarm, searching for the strongest snake in the swarm.
It was a task only Cyrus could handle. With the snakes surging back and forth in a chaotic tide, finding a single king was nearly impossible for anyone else.
This was where his Psychic Superpower became invaluable.
After about ten minutes of searching, Cyrus finally locked onto the target.
“Catch it! I need to talk to it!” Josie yelled.
“On it.” Cyrus reached out with his telekinetic grip, hauling a massive serpent out from the thickest part of the swarm.
The Serpent King was as thick as an utility bucket and over ten meters long. Two small, hard bumps protruded from the top of its head–the beginnings of some unknown evolution.
Josie used her vines to take the snake from Cyrus, and Ivy immediately draped her delicate tendrils across its scales.
Panic–stricken thoughts flooded Josie’s mind instantly.
“Let me go! Let me go! I can’t stay here! I have to run!” the Serpent King shrieked.
*Shut up!* Josie roared in her mind.
The Serpent King froze, looking at her in shock. “A human? How can you hear my voice? How do
you
know our language?”
“Cut the crap,” Josie said coldly. “Why are you all so terrified? Where are you going?”
