“What did you find that’s making you lose your minds?” Josie asked.

“Oh, that? It’s simple. We found a dormant volcano beneath this land. It’s about to erupt,” the Serpent King replied. “We’re all going to

die. No one gets away.”

“What?!” Now it was Josie’s turn to be shocked. “Where is the volcano?”

“Under our feet! Right under our feet! Hahahaha! Humans, you won’t escape either! We’re all dying together!” the Serpent King laughed manically. “When it blows–BOOM! Everything will be blasted, burned, and buried! Every living thing in this region is doomed!”

Josie’s face went deathly pale. “How big is it?”

“How should I know? I’m not a human. I just know it’s massive–bigger than you can imagine!” the Serpent King sneered. “Aren’t you

humans supposed to be so smart? How did you miss a volcano sitting right here? Hahahaha!”

“When is it going to erupt?” Josie pressed.

“I don’t know. Within the next day or two,” the Serpent King answered vaguely. “None of us can run fast enough! We’re all dead!

Evolution, transformation… it’s all a lie! All of it!”

No matter what Josie asked after that, the Serpent King just repeated the same hysterical phrases.

It was obvious the newly evolved king had suffered a total mental breakdown. It had completely snapped.

Josie released the creature.

The Serpent King quickly vanished back into the swarm, continuing its frantic charge forward.

Josie sprinted to Cyrus’s side and relayed everything she had learned. “We’ve got a massive problem, Cyrus. There’s a volcano hidden

here, and I had no idea. This Doomsday Quake is almost certainly going to trigger it. Once it blows, the impact zone could cover

hundreds or even a thousand miles. We have to get out of here right now.”

“Impressive,” Cyrus remarked. He had watched Josie staring down the snake earlier, but he hadn’t expected her to actually be able to

communicate with mutant animals.

It was a surprising revelation, even for him.

“Hold back the swarm while I build a fire wall,” Josie commanded. “We can’t waste any more time fighting them. Let the snakes pass so we can get back to running for our lives. This time, it’s for real!”

She wasn’t exaggerating.

A volcanic eruption was no joke.

Theoretically, the actual lava flow would cover a limited area–maybe a few miles or a dozen miles at most. The real killers were usually the earthquake and the volcanic ash.

But for the snakes to be this terrified, the scale of this eruption had to be far worse than average.

The most logical conclusion was that the massive Doomsday Quake would crack the earth open, triggering a colossal eruption that would send magma surging across thousands of miles.

Snakes were one of the species most sensitive to geological shifts. They had already “seen” the vision of the world being consumed by fire and molten rock. That was why they had broken down.
