Chapter 452.
Josie pulled out her map again and began searching for nearby high points.
She actually managed to find a suitable location.
There was a small hill nearby, only about four or five hundred meters high. Crucially, the surrounding area was clear of obstructions. The top of the hill was relatively flat without sharp peaks.
“This is it!” Josie pointed at the map. “Move, move, move! We’re heading to the hill to take cover!”
The convoy changed direction and headed toward the small hill.
Once they reached the foot of the hill, the vehicles couldn’t go any further. The original mountain roads had long since collapsed, so they had to hike.
Josie and Cyrus led the way on foot as usual.
The Terrestrial Supers followed behind them, paving a small path as they climbed so the others could follow.
“Thanks for your help these past few days,” Josie said to Cyrus.
Cyrus glanced sideways at her. “No need. I did it for myself as much as for you.”
Josie immediately perked up. “Fair enough. Then I won’t thank you.”
Cyrus let out a sharp, amused laugh. “You really know how to take a mile when I give an inch, don’t you?”
“Once we survive the Great Quake and Megatsunami, we’ll go our separate ways,” Josie said, ready to discard him the moment he was no longer useful.
“We’ll see about that!” Cyrus replied irritably. “Who knows? You might end up begging for my help again!”
“True. Once I don’t need you anymore, we’ll split!” Josie said earnestly.
Cyrus was rendered completely speechless by her bluntness.
To an outsider, it looked like a temporary alliance between two different species. To someone who didn’t know better, it sounded like a
couple going through a messy breakup.
They continued their banter all the way to the summit.
Josie looked around, picked a suitable spot, and pulled a machine from her space. She started clearing the area, leveling any spot that might be prone to landslides.
Then, she pulled out one–meter–long rebars and had the Terrestrial Supers begin driving the foundations into the earth. The Metallic Supers followed, melting and binding the rebars together.
In a short time, they had constructed a reinforced metal cage frame. As long as the hill didn’t collapse, they wouldn’t be thrown off.
The Terrestrial Supers began building walls along the metal frame. The walls weren’t high–only about two meters–and they didn’t add a roof. There was no point; a roof would only collapse and crush people during a quake.
Josie had a ring of seats installed along the walls, equipped with safety belts. Everyone was ordered to strap themselves in tightly to ensure they wouldn’t be tossed around when the shaking started.
In the center of the area, Sean continued to monitor the seismic waves. The printed lines were growing larger and more violent. Even a
