“Currently, only you and the people from The Peaks Base have arrived. The Official Base is still on the way. They should be here shortly,” the guide answered warmly.

Josie Quinn let out a sarcastic laugh.“Oh? The Official Base sure loves putting on airs. Planning to make a ‘grand entrance‘, are they?”

The guide simply smiled and didn’t respond, clearly not wanting to offend anyone.

Josie couldn’t help but glance at him again.

The man’s smile became even more humble.

She hadn’t expected The Rivers Base, notorious for its bad tempers, to have such a socially adept person on staff. It seemed Sierra City was tra a place of hidden talents.

Josie didn’t say anything else and continued upward.

They entered a massive city gate and passed through security. Specifically, it was a set of three security gates, very similar to a subway station’s. Passing through all three was a mandatory check to determine whether a person was human or Undead.

No matter who you were, entering the base required going through these three gates, as this was the only entrance.

After Josie and Zane Shaw cleared security, the guide handed them a set of car keys.

Every VIP was provided with a dedicated vehicle so they could drive themselves up. The Rivers Base covered a massive area; if they tried to walk, they’d be hiking forever. Moreover, not everyone had Josie’s level of stamina.

The Rivers Base was indeed sprawling, occupying an entire mountain peak. For a base focused on livestock and animal husbandry, having a small territory simply wouldn’t work.

As Josie and Zane drove up, they saw herds of livestock being raised in large, gridded pens. Because the area was so vast, the animals didn’t seem cramped; they looked quite content in their enclosures.

Since the temperature in Sierra City was much higher than in the north, the area remained green year–round. With plenty of grass, the livestock thrived. Consequently, The Rivers Base never lacked meat, and its residents were generally very well–built. Of course, the fact that they were all Supers helped as well.

When they reached the summit, Josie and Zane were met with a warm welcome.

“Chief Quinn! Deputy Chief Shaw!” Felix Fletcher came to greet them. His attitude was exceptionally enthusiastic as he proactively shook hands with both of them.

There wasn’t a trace of the arrogance that the rumors about The Rivers Base suggested.

Josie shook his hand.“Congratulations, Felix! It looks like The Rivers Base has an heir now!”

Felix’s expression flickered strangely. It was the look of someone who didn’t actually want to smile but was forcing himself to look happy and celebratory.

“Please, both of you, come inside!” Felix ushered Josie and Zane into the house, which was already crowded with people.

A large group was gathered around a young, beautiful girl holding a baby, showering the child in her arms with flattery.

Josie tilted her head and whispered to Zane, “Who’s that?”

“I heard she’s Felix Fletcher’s sister,” Zane answered in a low voice.“She’s one of the key people in power at The Rivers Base.”

Josie nodded in understanding. That made sense. The woman who had actually given birth was still in her postpartum recovery period, so she wouldn’t be out in public like this.

Josie spotted Nadia Neville and went over to greet her.
