Chapter 94
Tate got the hint.
Victor was in the way.
It was time to take him out.
Besides, Victor’s men were solid–real pros.
Tate was definitely interested.
If he and June worked together–him from the outside, her from the inside–they could wipe out Victor’s inner circle. Then the whole squad and all their supplies would be ripe for the taking.
Honestly, Tate didn’t really need Victor’s scraps.
But he’d just lost three billion tons of grain.
He had to do something to make up for the hit, or his old man wouldn’t be able to cover for him in front of the others.
The two of them were on the same page immediately.
The plan was set: Murder Victor and put June in the driver’s seat.
June had already won over most of the men. All she needed was a little push to seize full control of Victor’s crew.
They plotted for a long time, their voices low and intimate, before June finally slipped away as if nothing had happened.
Watching her walk away, Tate let out a dry chuckle. “Damn, what a stone–cold bitch. Well, as long as it benefits me, I don’t give a
shit.”
June headed back to Highland Heights. Once she was sure no one was looking, she handed two VIP base passes to her parents. “Get to the base now, before anyone catches on. These will get you into the luxury sector. I’ve already greased the wheels–someone there will set you up with a two–bedroom apartment as soon as you arrive.”
Arthur and Sylvia were shaking with excitement.
They finally had their golden tickets. They were going to the base!
They’d been cooped up in this tiny complex for days, too terrified to even show their faces outside.
They were paralyzed by the thought of Josie snatching them up again and shaking June down for another massive ransom.
But even more than the money, they were terrified of the pain. They couldn’t handle another round of Josie’s “hospitality.
But that was over now. They had passes to the Base. Once they were inside those walls, Josie couldn’t touch them. They’d finally be
safe.
“What about you?” Sylvia asked, looking at June. “What are you going to do?”
“I have a few things to settle here first. I’ll head over the second I’m done.” June might have been a total piece of work, but she genuinely cared about her mother.
June gave her a reassuring look. “You two go first. Get our new place ready. I’ll be there to join you before you know it. Once we’re settled in the Base, we can go wherever we want. No more Josie, no more kidnappings. We’ll be free.”
“Yes! Yes, exactly!” Arthur was practically vibrating with excitement. “Let’s go. Now!”
Sylvia gripped her crutches and started hobbling toward the exit as fast as she could.
Watching them limp away on their mangled legs, June’s hands balled into tight fists.
Josie. I’m going to make you pay for every single thing you’ve done. Every. Last. Bit.
