James glanced over at Steve. “Pull together everything you can find about what’s happening over there and send it to me.”

“If we’re cleaning house anyway, may as well get rid of this mess too.”

Steve nodded. “Got it. I’ll handle it tonight.”

The three of them talked for a few more minutes about the situation at the border.

James checked his watch and frowned a little.

“Alright, that’s about it.”

“I’m taking my wife home. You guys have fun.”

He turned, slid open the balcony door, and stepped back inside.

In the private room, Emmy and Abriella were halfway through an old song, singing into the same microphone.

Emmy spotted James coming in and put the mic down.

“All done?”

James walked over, slipped his arm around her waist, and leaned down to whisper in her ear.

“Yeah. Let’s head home.”

He shot a quick smile at the others, then guided Emmy out.

Emmy had a flight in the morning, so every minute they had together felt rare, almost stolen.

James didn’t want to waste a second.

As they left, the rest of the room burst into good-natured teasing and whistles.

Out on the balcony, Will and Steve were still giving each other the evil eye.

Will finally gave a cold snort and went back inside, pushing the door shut behind him.

He barely had time to sit down before Abriella noticed something was off.

She set the tablet aside, slid over next to Will, and hugged his arm.

“What’s wrong?”

Abriella knew him too well. He couldn’t hide anything from her, especially not when he was carrying that heavy, dangerous mood.

Will looked at her, his throat tight.

He reached out to smooth her hair and his voice came out rougher than usual.

“Babe, tomorrow night… I have to go to the border with James. No idea when I’ll be back.”

Abriella’s smile disappeared in an instant.

She didn’t say a word, so Will pulled her even closer, trying to lighten things up with a smile.

“Hey, don’t worry. I’ll be fine. I still need to come back and make a baby with you, remember?”

“Abriella and Will are really something. That spark between them… it’s just so enviable.”

Krystina shot her a knowing look.

“You keep talking about wanting a sweet romance, but the government’s not handing those out. If you want one, you’ve got to go get it.”

Just then, Steve walked in from the balcony, cold air following him.

He had one hand in his pocket, standing tall. He’d dropped some of his usual cocky attitude, and honestly, he looked pretty good.

Krystina heard him come in and glanced over.

“You’ve got a lot going for you. Want me to set you up with someone?”
