Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 1061

Krystina didn’t catch the sarcasm in his voice. Instead, she thought the two of them had an unexpectedly good vibe together. She nodded eagerly, almost like she was selling something. “So, what do you think, Mr. Michell? My best friend here isn’t just gorgeous, she’s got a killer work ethic too.”

“If you end up with her, you’re hitting the jackpot. Seriously, you’d be lucky to have her.”

Steve let out a quiet, cold laugh. He never glanced at Krystina. His eyes, always a mix of amusement and indifference, locked right onto Sylvia. His stare was so intense it almost felt physical, like he was seeing straight through her calm, professional exterior.

Sylvia frowned. She hadn’t expected Krystina to be so blunt, and she definitely hadn’t expected Steve to look at her that way. There was something mocking in his gaze, like he was watching her put on a show. She quickly tugged on Krystina’s sleeve. “Mr. Carter, have you had too much to drink? Stop trying to play matchmaker. There’s no way anything could happen between us.”

But Krystina wasn’t giving up. “Why not? Seriously, why is it impossible?”

“Look, Mr. Michell is successful, and so are you. He’s good-looking, and you’re stunning. You two are literally perfect for each other. It’s a match made in heaven. You fit together in every way.”

Sylvia couldn’t hold it in anymore. She snapped, “Enough already. For the last time, there is absolutely nothing between us.”

Steve watched her scramble to distance herself, and his eyes grew even more amused. She used to cling to him and never let go. Now she was suddenly acting all virtuous? He rubbed his chin with long fingers, his voice lazy and careless. “Sure. I think Mr. Carter has a point. We could… give it a shot.”

Sylvia’s head shot up and she stared at him, totally stunned. “Steve, that’s not funny at all.”

What was he doing? Was he trying to embarrass her? He knew exactly what their past was. He’d been the one who told her to get lost, no hesitation.

Krystina, still clueless about their history, just thought they were flirting. She pushed even harder. “See? Mr. Michell is open to it! Ms. Moore, stop being so stubborn. Relationships are about getting to know each other. Who knows, it might actually work out.”

“There’s no ‘who knows’ about it.” Sylvia’s frustration boiled over, her voice icy. “Mr. Carter, I’m telling you, there’s zero chance.”

She shot Steve a cold look and gave a bitter little smile. “Mr. Michell has high standards. Someone like me isn’t even on his radar.”

She picked up her purse. “It’s getting late. I have things to do. I’m leaving.”

She hesitated, then added, “And next time, please don’t ask me to pick you up. If someone sees us together, it’ll just lead to more unnecessary rumors.”

She’d already pulled onto the main road when Steve had called her. He sounded so commanding, just like he always did when he’d been drinking, telling her to come get him. She’d wanted to say no, but after what Krystina said, she worried he might misunderstand, so she turned back just to clear things up.

Steve listened, watching her tense profile with a half-smile. “If you didn’t want to come, you could’ve just said no.”

Sylvia froze for a second, then glanced over at him. “What?”

Steve scoffed, his fingers tapping on his thigh. “You were so quick to say no just now, but the moment I called, you showed up without hesitation.”

“I almost believed you were as decisive as you pretend to be. But you’re exactly the same as before.”

He turned a little, looking right at her. “Sylvia, don’t tell me you’re still holding onto those unrealistic dreams.”
