Emmy gave a small, bitter laugh. She wished she could handle things differently, too. She knew James would never do anything to hurt her. Everything he did was probably just his way of protecting her. Still, she was tired of living her life surrounded by lies. Now, with her memory gone, she couldn’t even remember if she’d ever had a child. Having to guess about something like that made her feel completely lost. Being kept in the dark, like she was some kind of fool, was the worst feeling in the world.
James stared at his phone, waiting for a reply that never came. His frown deepened as the uneasy feeling in his chest grew stronger. After hesitating for a moment, he sent another message.
Don’t overthink things. You barely slept last night. Try to get some real rest on the plane.
Text me when you land, okay? Just let me know you’re safe.
A few seconds passed before his phone buzzed with a reply.
Okay.
James finally let out a breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding.
Teresa walked over, holding two beautifully carved wooden toys. She asked offhandedly, “What time does Emmy’s flight land?”
“Tomorrow afternoon,” James answered. He did a quick calculation in his head. “It’ll be about three or four in the morning her time. She’ll probably just grab her things and head straight to the lab.”
Teresa sighed, her concern plain on her face. “That girl always cuts it so close. She never gives herself a break. It’s such a hassle for her to come home, and now she has to leave again so soon.”
“In a little while, your Uncle Ji and I are going to Country M for a global tech summit. Her research institute isn’t far from there. I’ll drop by to see her and bring her some of her favorite snacks.”
James nodded. His eyes darkened with worry as he watched Joey crouched on the floor, focused on a wooden puzzle. He turned to Teresa.
“Mom, I have to head out this afternoon, too. There’s an urgent military mission I need to take care of. The place is pretty remote, so I might not have a signal, and I don’t know when I’ll be back. I’ll need to rely on you to keep an eye on the kids for me.”
The sun was starting to dip lower in the sky. James spent the rest of the afternoon at the estate, playing with the kids and keeping a soft, protective eye on them.
Suddenly, his phone buzzed. When he checked it, he saw a message from an unknown number.
Nico, can I see you?
Only one woman ever called him Nico.
He stared at the message, his thumb brushing along the edge of his phone while he weighed what to do. After a few seconds, his expression unreadable, he typed back a single word.
Okay.

chapter 1251 has no wording, just the chapter number...
What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
I enjoy reading this. I like that the storyline isn’t drawn out and moves on. I also appreciate chapters being added almost everyday, thank you....
