A wave of sadness and frustration suddenly welled up inside Teresa. Why did men always seem this way? When they wanted you, they’d chase after you like a loyal puppy, but as soon as they got what they wanted, they stopped caring. The moment you didn’t go along with them, they’d turn cold without a second thought.
Lost in her thoughts, Teresa kept her head down and started looking for a cab. Out of nowhere, a car horn blared right beside her. The sound made her jump. She turned to see the black sedan that had driven off just a moment ago, now pulled up at the curb next to her. The passenger window rolled down. Andrew sat inside, his face still stormy and tight with anger.
He glared at her and snapped, “Why are you just standing there? It’s freezing out here. Don’t you know that?”
Teresa stood by the car, frowning. She remembered how, in the past, Andrew would rush out to open the door for her the second she got close. He’d guide her in, shielding her from the cold. It was his way of showing care, his own brand of tenderness that he only ever gave her. But this time, he stayed put.
Without a word, Teresa pressed her lips together, opened the passenger door herself, and slipped inside. The car was silent the whole drive back.
When they reached the hotel, Andrew didn’t say anything to her. He tossed the keys to the valet and strode straight into the elevator, heading up to their suite. As soon as they walked through the door, he shrugged off his coat and disappeared into the study. Almost immediately, she could hear the clatter of his keyboard and his sharp, cold voice as he scolded someone on the phone.
Teresa stood alone in the living room, staring at the closed study door. She let out a long breath, took off her coat, and hung it up. Then she sank into the sofa, her mind spinning in circles.
Just then, her phone buzzed twice. Teresa picked it up and saw a message from her daughter.
[Mom, how’s the sightseeing? Isn’t Boston beautiful at night?]
Teresa sighed before replying.
[It’s lovely. The night view is amazing, and we had some really good seafood.]
Her daughter replied almost instantly.
[That’s great! I knew things would go well with Mr. Aldridge there.]
[So… did you two talk about when you’re getting married?]
Teresa glanced at the study door, then back at her phone. She hesitated, not sure how to respond. Before she could figure it out, Emmy sent another message, this time with a few cute stickers.
She replied carefully.
[Okay, Mom. I get it.]
[You two should do what feels right for you. No matter what, I’ll support your decision.]
[As long as you love Mr. Aldridge, and he loves you, that’s all that matters.]
Reading her daughter’s message, Teresa felt her eyes sting with tears. Emmy was right. If being together made them happy, why get hung up on ceremony or tradition? The way they’d been living before was perfectly fine. Without the pressure of marriage, maybe they’d appreciate every moment together even more, love each other more deeply, and care about each other’s feelings even more.
Wasn’t that what real love looked like?
Having made up her mind, Teresa stood up. She went to the kitchen, washed some fruit, cut it into neat little pieces, and arranged them on a pretty plate. With the fruit in hand, she walked over and gently pushed open the study door.

What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
