After a short break, the Dragonscale special ops team melted into the murky river. They moved so quietly it was like watching shadows slip through water. The canyon around them was brutal, with cliffs rising on both sides, sharp and steep, like someone had hacked them out with an ax. The only way in was this wild, rushing river.

Up above, the enemy had searchlights and heavy machine guns set up everywhere. Charging in head-on would have been suicidal. Underwater was the only real option.

The river was freezing cold, the current strong and unpredictable. Beneath the surface, it was even worse. Sharp rocks everywhere, and tangled wire fences set up to stop anyone from sneaking in.

“Go under,” James said quietly into his throat mic. No one hesitated. They all took a breath and dove.

James went first, cutting through the water like a black shark. He gripped a combat knife and used it to slice through the wires blocking their way. They swam for almost ten minutes, pushing themselves to the edge.

Ahead, a few customized gunboats floated on the water, rocking with the waves. Men on deck swept flashlights over the surface, ready to fire at anything that moved. Even a fish jumping would have set them off.

James signaled with his hand. Instantly, the team spread out, each one gliding toward their target like they were born for it.

James slipped up quietly, barely letting the top of his head break the surface. He stuck to the shadows along a boat’s hull. Pulling out a waterproof timer bomb, he reached under and stuck it to the fuel tank.

A few minutes later, all the explosives were set. The team swam across and crawled up onto the muddy shore on the far side. They’d reached a blind spot in the enemy’s territory.

The jungle nearby was thick and dark. From inside, they could see little sparks of fire and hear the crunch of guards stepping on fallen branches.

James’s eyes were cold and focused, darker than the night itself. He raised his hand, signaling them forward. A tiny recon drone, no bigger than his palm, zipped off into the trees without a sound.

Seconds later, the steady but urgent voice of their intel officer came through their earpieces.

Chaos exploded in the jungle. Gunfire tore through the night. James’s rifle barked, muzzle flashing. The team’s shots were sharp, ruthless, mowing down anyone who tried to run.

“The boss is escaping! After him!” Will shouted, spotting a group hustling one man toward a narrow path at the back.

James’s eyes narrowed. “Don’t let him get away!”

They took off after the fleeing group, sticking close. Just as they were about to break into a clearing, a strange, sharp whistle ripped through the air.

James’s instincts kicked in. His eyes went wide. “Down!” he yelled, throwing himself to the side.
