“Feeling better now?”
Emmy leaned against his chest and nodded. “You’re so warm… I wish I could stay right here forever.”
James gave a soft laugh and held her closer. “Then let’s just walk like this. I’ll carry you.”
But Emmy shook her head, worry flickering in her eyes as she looked up at him. “We should head back soon. You’re still hurt and your fever just broke. Being out in the wind too long isn’t good for you.”
James glanced at the hazy gray sky, his gaze drifting far away.
“It’s alright. Sometimes the wind helps clear my head.”
Emmy felt a pang in her chest. She hesitated, then blurted out, “You’re really worried about Will, aren’t you? You’re scared he… might not wake up?”
James stayed silent.
Emmy squeezed his hand, her voice steady. “There’s still two days left. Didn’t you always say he’s never let you down?”
“He’ll wake up. He wouldn’t leave Abriella behind. And he wouldn’t leave you, Captain.”
James didn’t answer right away.
When he finally spoke, his voice was rough and low, like it had been scraped raw by the wind.
“Will was the very first soldier I picked when I started the Dragonscale team.”
“Back then, command gave me full authority to build my own squad. I could choose anyone. I went through thousands of files, over and over, but none of them felt right.”
“Then came that battle on the border.”
His eyes seemed to look straight through the present, back to a land filled with smoke and fire.
“The fighting was brutal. The enemy had their guns set up in a bunker, and no matter how many times we tried, we couldn’t break through.”
“Just when we were about to go for one last push, this tiny figure darted out of nowhere.”
“He actually got out in front of me, running straight through the gunfire like his life meant nothing.”
“In the end, he managed to toss a massive homemade bomb into the bunker.”
“The bunker exploded, but he was too close and the blast sent him flying.”
James’s hand trembled, just barely.
“I dragged him out of the rubble… and realized he was just a kid.”
“He was only twelve.”
Emmy stared at him, shocked. “Twelve?”
James nodded, pain flickering in his eyes.
“Yeah. Twelve.”
“He was an orphan from the base. Snuck onto the battlefield. He told me he wanted revenge for his parents, that he wanted to kill those traffickers himself.”
“He was covered in blood, lying in my arms, clutching my collar like it was the only thing keeping him alive.”

chapter 1251 has no wording, just the chapter number...
What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....
CHAPTER 1220 HAS NO WORDING JUST THE CHAPTER NUMBER...
Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
I enjoy reading this. I like that the storyline isn’t drawn out and moves on. I also appreciate chapters being added almost everyday, thank you....
