James’s eyebrows pulled together in an instant. He hadn’t sent any flowers. Who did, and why would Emmy think they were from him?
His lips pressed tight, jaw clenched, he shot off a quick reply.
[That wasn’t me.]
But Emmy was already floating in her own happy little world, convinced her husband had just sent her flowers. She tucked her phone back into her purse without seeing his message, still beaming as she hugged the bouquet closer and leaned in for a deep breath. The scent was amazing.
It was a gorgeous arrangement, the kind you’d see in a magazine—sunflowers bright as daylight, pure white roses, soft purple eustomas, and a few dainty pink bellflowers. Every bloom was one of her favorites.
Emmy felt giddy, sweetness curling through her chest until she couldn’t help but smile with her whole face.
Right beside her, Harlene practically squealed as she cupped her cheeks.
“Wow, Lin, your husband is seriously romantic! The timing is perfect—he sent them right after you won. And look at these flowers, they’re so pretty, you can tell he really thought about it.”
John, who was sitting nearby, didn’t look nearly as thrilled. He spoke up, voice a little stiff.
“Lin, the flowers are lovely, but you’ve got interviews coming up. Carrying around a huge bouquet is going to be a hassle. It’ll draw a lot of attention. It’s not the best idea.”
Emmy was way too happy to care. She stroked the petals, smiling so wide her eyes crinkled.
“It’s fine, I’ll just set them to the side during the interviews.”
John pressed his lips together, clearly annoyed, but dropped it.
Just then, the host’s energetic voice rang out, bringing the morning’s award ceremony to a close.
“All award winners, please head to the media center in Zone B for interviews. And don’t forget, at two this afternoon, there’s a seminar on ‘The Future of AI’ in Victoria Hall. Please be on time.”
The lights snapped on, signaling the end. People started gathering their things and heading out.
Emmy, still cradling her flowers, was about to stand when a tall figure moved down the aisle toward her. He stopped behind her, tapping her gently on the shoulder.
“Ms. Lincoln.”
She turned, surprised to see Abis. He looked at her with a little smile tugging at his lips.
“Congratulations. Two big awards in one day. You really shined.”
Emmy nodded politely.
“Thank you.”

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
