John’s face grew tense as he walked quickly over, blue eyes suddenly burning with anger.
“Emmy, what happened to your mouth?” His voice shook, on the edge of fury. “Did he hit you?!”
Emmy paused, confused, and instinctively touched her lips. When she glanced down, she saw a harsh streak of red on her fingertips.
It was James’s blood.
She remembered biting him too hard, the blood smearing on her lips when she lost control. She hadn’t even bothered to wipe it away. Emmy frowned. Truthfully, she hadn’t been herself either. She had been so carried away by emotion. His old wounds hadn’t healed, and now she had made things worse.
But when she thought about how he’d spent that “fun morning” with Mercedes, any guilt she felt vanished. She caught John and Harlene staring at her, both looking shocked and angry. Emmy just felt tired and bitter.
She grabbed a tissue and cleaned the blood from her mouth, face blank.
“It’s not my blood. It’s his,” she said quietly.
John’s eyes widened before the anger on his face deepened. His fists clenched tight. “That bastard. He tried to force you, didn’t he?”
John just couldn’t believe Emmy, always so calm and graceful, would bite someone unless he really deserved it. He was furious. His chest heaved, and he spun around, about to storm out. “I’m going to find him. He doesn’t deserve you. No one does if they treat you like that.”
“Don’t,” Emmy said, calling after him.
Thinking about how James already didn’t like John, she shook her head, feeling exhausted. “John, this is between James and me. I don’t want you involved or dragged into this with us.”
“And, by the way, you’re all mistaken about Mercedes. She’s James’s sister. There’s no relationship there. No rumors. Nothing.”
Her words sounded casual, but it was obvious to anyone listening that she was hurting and trying to be strong. Her eyes, still red, showed how shaken she was. Everyone here was old enough to understand. Even if it really was just a misunderstanding, the blood was proof enough that something intense had happened.
John looked at her uncertainly. His hands balled up, then relaxed, then tightened again. After a long pause, he finally said nothing more. He took a deep breath, calming himself.
“Okay. I won’t go.”

What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
I enjoy reading this. I like that the storyline isn’t drawn out and moves on. I also appreciate chapters being added almost everyday, thank you....
