Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 1249

James sat there, a deep crease in his brow, lost in thought. Logic told him there was almost no way. He’d pulled military strings for this, even had Major General Calony in Fiji personally take care of Dean. Who on earth could survive all that, then resurface with a completely clean slate and a brand new name like Abis?

Still, if Emmy was suspicious, he couldn’t ignore it. Even just to put her mind at ease, he needed to dig until he found the truth.

With that, his eyes darkened and he leaned in to murmur against her ear, “I’ll have someone check it out.”

“The fastest way is to get some hair or any kind of tissue sample from Abis. We can do a paternity test with Ben.”

Emmy’s eyes sparkled as she whipped around to face him. “That’s exactly what I was thinking!” she said, excitement bubbling in her voice. “I just looked at Dean’s DNA report earlier, and there’s nothing off about it. But if Abis really is Dean, his DNA will match Ben’s, right? Ben’s his only family left.”

She grabbed James’s arm, a note of urgency creeping in. “So do it now, please. If that man really is Dean, he’s dangerous, and I worry if we wait too long, he’ll notice I’m on to him and start being careful.”

James slid out of bed. “Alright, I’ll handle it now.” He picked up his phone from the couch and dialed a secure number, muttering a few quiet instructions before hanging up and getting back under the covers.

“It’s set. We’ll have answers in a week,” he told her, slipping back beside her and pulling her close again.

After all the back-and-forth, neither of them could sleep anymore. Not that it mattered—they’d caught three hours of rest in the car anyway, so both were wide awake now.

Emmy wasn’t tired, but all she wanted was to lie in the quiet with James, soaking up the peace and closeness while it lasted.

“Nope, don’t miss you at all,” Emmy shot back, grabbing for his hand, trying to pry it away.

James just held on tighter, peppering kisses all along the side of her neck, slow and relentless. “Come on, babe... I’m suffering over here,” he mumbled against her skin, voice gravelly and needy.

Emmy took a slow, steadying breath, fighting to ignore the goosebumps spreading across her skin where he touched her. “I’m uncomfortable too,” she admitted, her voice cool. “So how about, for both our sakes, you go to the couch and cool off?”

James went completely still. He paused in his kissing, then just buried his head on her shoulder with a defeated sigh.

“You’re getting colder and colder, you know that?” he grumbled into her skin. “Aren’t you worried you’ll break me beyond repair one of these days?”
