Two wedding invitations. Seriously?
Emmy picked up the top one first and flipped it open. Her own name was right there, written in that elegant, careful handwriting she’d recognize anywhere. It was from Abriella.
The other invite underneath was for James. The writing was wild and bold, almost impossible to read unless you knew the person. That could only be Will.
Emmy couldn’t stop herself from laughing, her chest warm with a sudden rush of happiness. It was such a sweet surprise.
Inside, the wedding date was set for April sixteenth.
They’d actually gotten their marriage license ages ago, but Abriella had always complained to her that Will was just too busy to plan an actual wedding.
Right then, Krystina spoke up.
“Abriella said Will’s been officially discharged from the military,” she said. “His main job now is just to recover. By April, he should be mostly healed, so they want to have the wedding as soon as possible.”
Emmy closed the invitation, still smiling. “That’s so great. I’m definitely going to be there for them.”
Krystina started pulling out some documents from her suitcase. “Alright, happy stuff aside, let’s get down to business. I need to give you an update on Sync 2.0.”
“Ever since you won the Rising Star in Tech award at the Global AI Summit, your name is everywhere back home. Like, you’re kind of a legend right now in the tech world.”
She shot Emmy a thumbs up, face beaming with pride. “I watched the livestream. You absolutely killed it up there.”
“All that buzz basically boosted the product, too. The pre-order for Sync 2.0 has only been open for a few days, and we’ve already gotten over twenty thousand sign-ups.”
“On top of that, we’ve won back forty percent of the market share. Everything we lost before is back in our hands.”
Emmy arched one brow. That result was even better than she’d dared imagine.
Krystina let out a smug little sound and kept going. “Smart Health is panicking, for sure. The last few days, they’ve been pushing out fake articles trashing us, saying Sync 2.0 is unstable, and even spreading rumors that our data was faked.”
“But none of it stuck. Actual users drowned them out.”
“People started digging and found Smart Health’s core architecture is exactly the same as our Sync 1.0. Like, literally copied.”
“Now everyone online is calling Smart Health out. They got exposed for plagiarizing us, fell behind, and still tried to drag us down. Their reputation is tanking.”
“That’s a seriously beautiful comeback for us.”
Hearing that, Emmy’s brows drew together. “Smart Health copied Sync 1.0?”
She’d had a weird feeling about their system but never expected they’d stoop so low.
If there’s one thing Emmy couldn’t stand as a researcher, it was plagiarism. It made her skin crawl even worse than incompetence.
Nearby, Andrew stopped peeling his shrimp and looked up. “Emmy, are you going to see Mr. Nelson?”
Emmy nodded. “Yeah, he hardly ate today. I’m bringing him some food.”
“Mind if I come too?” Andrew asked. Deep Blue Tech worked with Janus Sphere Technologies all the time, and he had a few things he wanted to chat about.
Emmy grinned. “Of course you can.”
A little later, the server brought over an insulated container, all neatly packed.
Emmy took it and glanced at everyone still happily eating. “Take your time, guys,” she said. “If you need to rest, just head back up to your rooms. If you want to explore, I’ve arranged a private tour guide to meet you in the lobby.”
Krystina waved her off. “Go on, don’t worry about us.”
“I want to check out the eco-dome. It wasn’t open last time I visited.”
Sylvia and the other girls all jumped in, saying they wanted to go explore too.
Teresa looked tired, though. She was a bit older and the trip was catching up to her. “I think I’ll just go upstairs and get some sleep.”
After giving everyone a few last reminders, Emmy picked up the food container and, together with Andrew, made her way to the Operations Center.
