After giving his orders, James rubbed his forehead, deep in thought. Security around the cruise ship and nearby waters was supposed to be airtight, with patrols twenty-four hours a day. Every single supply that came on board passed through three layers of checks. On top of that, AI security bots did nonstop infrared scans all over the ship. There was no way any major explosive could've made it on by normal means. Unless…
A new idea hit James. He pressed his communicator, voice cold and clipped. “Listen up. Focus on the hull and everything under the waterline. I want the dive team in the water now. Search every inch, no exceptions.”
At his command, black military helicopters lifted off the helipad, skimming just above the waves as they raced for the untouched stretch of sand nearby. On the cruise ship, a secret hatch swung open and a team of divers, suited up from head to toe, slipped into the water without a sound. All around the resort, security disguised as tourists or servers instantly changed their whole vibe and disappeared into every corner, starting their sweep.
Meanwhile, Emmy was all action. She steadied herself, took Penny’s phone, and dialed the head of the medical team. “Send your top surgeons with emergency gear to join the helicopters now. There’s a victim, serious wounds, probably stabbed and in shock from blood loss. Prep plenty of O-negative blood.”
She hung up and turned to Penny. “Penny, send two people to meet Sylvia. Keep it secret. We can’t have any of the guests noticing something’s off.”
Today marked the resort’s opening day, and every major news outlet was watching. If panic or chaos broke out now, the hit to Janus Sphere Technologies would be a disaster.
Penny nodded, pressed her earpiece, and gave a few quick instructions. Her team of female bodyguards were out there already, blending in with the crowd, each one pretending to be a guest somewhere on the property.
James cut communications and faced Emmy. He squeezed her cold fingers and tried to sound steady. “Don’t worry—help is on the way. Steve can make it.”
“Stop!” James’s voice thundered from the doorway.
He charged in, moving faster than anyone could react, and slammed his hand on the lever. “Do not start those engines without my order.”
The officer paled and shook. “Sir, it’s almost launch time, and protocol—”
“Take your hand off,” James snapped. He swept his icy gaze over all the crew. “Everyone, leave. Go to the break room now and wait for further instructions. Nobody comes near this area unless I say so. That’s final.”
