James didn't say a word when Calony apologized. Instead, he just stayed quiet, lifted Emmy up with gentle, careful movements, and held her close to his chest as he walked quickly back toward the cabin.

Major General Calony watched the way James moved, his back rigid and closed off, and let out a heavy sigh. There was no escaping the truth. This disaster was on him.

James had brought an incredible surge of tourists to Fiji this year, practically jumpstarting the whole local economy on his own. Calony had given him his word, promising to keep everything safe. Now, right here on his watch, something catastrophic had happened.

Calony stood there, his expression growing darker as understanding crept in. None of this made sense. Everything had happened way too smoothly and way too fast. Their helicopter had pushed its limits to get here, but the person behind all this still managed a clean escape. Not even a hint left behind.

“General, we found Mercedes! Her wrist tendons are cut, she’s losing too much blood! She swallowed a lot of seawater too, and her vitals are crashing. She needs help now!”

Calony’s face changed immediately. He didn’t hesitate.

“Get a speedboat, now! Tell the medical team to be ready at the port! Take her straight to the hospital!”
